Stick with Leica Miami....Camera West in SF / bay area..... KEH or MPB, Japan Camera Hunter, Setadel Studio in Canada or Robets....   I have dealt with them all thru the years and have never had a bad experience. I especially enjoy Leica Miami and have bought 3 M's from them. I also like the Red Dot Forum they do on You Tube as you feel like you 'know these guys'....

But I would never do Ebay for this expense of a camera. The 'junk/stuff' that is out there is evident and you don't want to be stuck holding the bag on a bum camera....and also, I have seen people state CLA'd but never be able to support that with  documentation.

ebay actually has about the best return policy there is, basically always siding with the buyer.  So I'd feel better buying a camera from them than many other official places.

I bought my M240 off ebay, my M7 off ebay, my M5 off ebay, two M3s, an MdA, a 1F, my R9, my R7, one R-E, my M-A, one Xpan, one TX-1, one TX-2 (Xpan 2), one Rolleiflex 2.8 E, one Rolleiflex 2.8GX 60 Jahre edition, Nikon F6, Nikon F3Ltd, F3P, Leica lenses up the yin yang etc.

Zero issues.

I bought a new Leica M6 2022 from a Leica dealer.  Brand new - not sure if you heard this story - defective from new, at Leica for repair for 12 weeks now.  If I bought that off ebay, instant return, full refund.

@Aryel I saw the M5 at Ben Photo... . He had 2 there. Do you know if they have warranty or if they service the cameras before putting them up for sale?

Hi,

Best is to check the camera and ask them directly about the warranty and cla.  I bought a leica cl from them, it came with 3 months warranty as far as I recall.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure how it can be, seeing it has the spot metering system, the different VF with exposure readouts, the ISO dial on the top , completely different film rewind mechanism , has a hot shoe etc

You can swap the back doors - I just did it!

A fair point! There is a lot of extra 'stuff' inside the bigger housing of the M5. What a great camera it is though. Comfortable in the hand, superb ergonomics. Some complain of the added width to the left of the eyepiece, but I've never found it a problem.

My M5 that had the prism separate is in the 136xxx serial # range.  I never knocked it/banged it etc.  Just one day - done.  No longer could focus.

I got it fixed, and now it is back to its fantastic self.

My two lug M5 with Luigi case to allow horizontal use. Great camera, the only fault being the frame counter not always returning to zero but I can live with that.

Bellamy Hunt posted this picture of a  silver chrome M5 on his Instagram account. I think it looks pretty smart with the Summaron 2.8 fitted.

And since we're showing the M5 a bit of love, and the OP doesn't mind, here's my cherished 1975 50 Jahre M5

I disagree. I've found my best deals on eBay. Hidden gems. You just have to put in some due diligence.

Precisely why I'll gladly still buy but never sell again on eBay. The buyer holds all the power.

Sure, eBay is great for returns, but shipping something back internationally for a return is expensive (requiring separate contact with seller for reimbursement) and a pain in the ass. Sellers also often harass you wanting to give you a partial credit instead of a refund. Wasted time. I only buy within my own country now when possible.
