Both the pictures above — sourced from Leica Rumors — and the new pictures in LR make me think the SL3 is at least an inch narrower than previous SLs. The absence of the dial on the back (seemingly moved to the top left) is a sizesble amount of real estate…

There's a dial on the back. But it does look thinner. The dial is waaaaay out on the edge of the body now. About the same width as my X2D's by the look of it.

I do wonder what the dial on the top left is. Also a new one on the EVF hump. Likely they moved the diopter which is a shame.

Oh... The Amsterdam invitation shows an M under cover. Not an SL.... I hope it's not an M11D. I'm not sure which kidney I'd need to selll to get both.

Just found in "Fotografia. It", the Italian magazine :

  • Stabilizzazione 6.5 step
  • Autofocus ibrido
  • Video 4K a 60p, 8K a 30p con crop.
  • Schede memoria CFexpress Type B + SD UHS-II
  • Porte HDMI 2.1A e USB-C 3.1
  • Bluetooth 5.1
  • Protezione IP54
  • Batteria BC-SCL6
  • Nuovo caricabatteria
  • Peso 769 grammi

Come M11-P, anche Leica SL3 avrà il chip per la Content Authentication in modo da proteggere le immagini dalle falsificazioni.

769 grams if true is awesome.

SL2 - 840g

Panasonic S5II - 658g

Man this camera looks awesome, but I’m at the crossroads. I have a sweet sl2 kit that I’m currently selling in the hopes of going with the sl3. Now I’m not sure. Yes there will be improvements but $5k extra (if I sell my sl2 for $3k) for the flip screen, 13 more megapixels and maybe a better af system? That’s gonna be a tough…

Having the play button where it's supposed to be is enough for me... :)

The buttons on the right hand side is is a good move but what is the top dial on the LHS? ISO? l very much like the M10/11 ISO dial and often wish there was one on the SL.

My guess is a PASM dial with custom settings. But I've not seen a top down image yet. Could also be a drive mode dial which would be OK. I would NOT like ISO in that spot. Not like it at all.

I have my SL2 programed so the click for the rear dial is ISO and it's brilliant. Non click is exposure comp (PAS) or aperture (manual). I really like this set up and hope to keep it on the SL3. I change PASM from the quick menu when required. I have exactly the same settings on my X2D's. Makes swapping back and forward seemless.

I suspect it will be unmarked clicky dial and you can customize it (ISO, PASM, Drive, Exp Comp, etc…)

That’s not an M, it’s the Q with the 40/50mm lens. 😉

I have often wanted a third assignable dial, to give full manual control: shutter, aperture and ISO.

But why an illuminated on-off button? I can't recall any suggestion here that it is needed, or that there is anything wrong with the existing switch, which I can find easily in the dark.

Possibly something 'inherited' from Panasonic where some of the buttons are (optionally) backlit, something that can be convenient shooting in complete darkness. Some of Panasonic's bodies have also the option of turning the menu text red (on black background) and dimming the back screen ('Night mode' it's called, I think); these are features I actually appreciate when shooting at night...

I can understand that with the functional buttons, but I have never found the on-off switch a problem to find.

How is that on/off button going to work? Have to admit it makes me a bit apprehensive, after about 13 years using S and SL cameras my hands are kind of used to the switch they have, lol. Also as a night shooter it seems like a bad idea to have an illuminated switch right next to your eyes…especially a blue/white one. But I assume it is possible to disable this. The power button is rarely the switch that one struggles with at night, it is always the more multifunction dials.

I have had the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K for a while now, and have no trouble with the power switch. There are two groups of three buttons, and a group of four, logically laid out for functionality, but I still feel the wrong one in the dark - the option of back illumination would be handy. I still occasionally do the same with the SL2-S: press Menu instead of Fn, or FN instead of Play. Mind you, I can do that in daylight as well.

Am I wrong or the new SL3 looks clearly smaller then the precious cameras?
