Yikes. Looks a bit ungainly in that photo. Hope it looks/feels better in person. What is the port next to the viewfinder to the left? It looks like a pc sync port, but seems a strange placement?

Looks like a Photoshop hack job. I wouldn’t think Leica would have such poor attention to detail with regard to the size of their logos versus the available space, unless maybe they’re going for the oversized Mercedes logo vibe 🫠

Externally seems like a carryover from SL2. Picked up a S1r after selling the SL2 in anticipation of SL3 coming out, from a hand holdability perspective, the S1r’s grip, with the contour, is a lot more comfortable, despite being slightly heavier even than the SL2. GAS would have me getting the SL3 but sensibly perhaps getting the new iteration of S1r would be wiser.

Don’t think it’s a PS hack job.

Why would they size "LEICA" so that the "L" is almost touching one side of the camera, making it look off center? Look how elegant the spacing is around LEICA on the SL2. Design 101 is leave equal visual space around all sides of your logo.

Good to see that the back buttons are moved to the right of the screen, and thus accessible to the hand that operates the shutter. Finally - and closer to the buttom layout of (medium format) S and SL.

The SL2 and a M-L adapter turn the SL2 into a very reasonable M camera with an electronic viewfinder ...

I wonder if the BSI sensor might helpful in terms of improving edge performance even more of M lenses on an SL body? Simply wondering because the tech camera folk noted the relative lack of color cast etc in the edges when moving to the IQ4 (a BSI sensor).

Maybe the size of letters remained the same as on SL2 but the size of viewfinder housing is now smaller?

It’s a grainy screen grab that can make things look bigger, like footprints in melting snow.

i guess we’ll find out March 7th

I am not sure John, but I do see very good output using my SL2 with M lenses.

Wild guess:

1. I see Timecode interface listed on the rumored specs. Looks like it could be a Timecode port, although an awkward place for a port as I would expect the port to be next to the other ports.

2. Or is it some type of new On/Off interface. Otherwise where did the On/Off switch go.

One of my friends just accused of simping for a Leica!

He said every time new Leica come out I cant stop talking
about her and trying to find money so I can buy one ...

I think he is right with this differential diagnosis.
Also he is a dentist and he also shoot Leica.
Only difference between him and me is that he has more money
and I don't ...

If this is it, I have to say it's gross! Looks like a big clunky crappy old DSLR. If style or elegance is a consideration in buying into the SL system, the SL2 with its minimalist design is way ahead here. Opinions will of course differ, but if they cite functionality then perhaps a Sony or a Panasonic is a more fitting choice. It would be interesting to see the research, if ever there is any, on how many shots are actually taken with a tiltable screen that couldn't have been shot otherwise.

For stills I am fine with the viewfinder. For handheld video though, it is much nicer to look at the focusing scale while seeing the framing.
I kind of try to squint at the fixed screen, but it's pretty difficult.
(I mean the continuous AF is pretty useless and focus-by-wire MF also sucks.)
As a stills only camera, I would much rather just use an M.

It's a useful feature for video, but also whenever you use an extreme camera angle. You can get the same shots without a tilt screen, but at the cost of some contortion (or by simply guessing at your final framing and hoping for the best).

Many users have asked for this feature. It's hard to tell from the illustration, but it looks like it only adds a few millimeters to the overall thickness of the body.

On/Off switch is perhaps this thing on the EVF.
Press it in for On and press again, out for Off.
Now it has no On/Off writing on it like the old one...

The great thing about the tilt screen is of course, nobody has to tilt it. A fixed screen on the other hand can never be tilted. So there's that. A data set of one, I use the tilt screens when needed, usually for live events where I have to maneuver quickly around the movement of attendees or crowds which can be very dynamic as I move about for different angles following the action. Sometimes I have to go low sometimes high, and sometimes around the side haha. Same with product photography, sometimes angle of the camera on a fixed tripod or arm requires a tilt. But in this case Leica Fotos app comes in very handy too.

I'm sure others can present reasons the tilt helps get their shot. But also, so does using the Fotos app if tilt is not available.

The SL2 IS a lovely piece of design. IMO one of the most svelte larger camera designs, I've seen. But also I need to see a much better image of the new SL3.

You know, if I had my way, I'd get rid of all its video features too, and just have it be a strictly stills camera. What's always attracted to me the SL is its minimalist design philosophy— not a Swiss Army knife! :)
