caymanlawyer Posted January 15, 2023 Share #1  Posted January 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) The plastic lug protector has dropped off my M6TTL. Luckily, I saw it before it was lost.  Should I re-attach this with glue, or will it fall off again?  It looks like it was glued and also attached with tiny plugs that have snapped. The alternative is electrical tape, I guess since the chrome is otherwise going to worn away by the straps Any other solutions? Welcome, dear visitor! TomB_tx Posted January 15, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted January 15, 2023 Should be able to get the spare part (with the attached plugs) from Leica or a tech like DAG.
madNbad Posted January 15, 2023 Share #3  Posted January 15, 2023 To attach them, you need to remove the top plate since they’re pinned in place from the inside.
Huss Posted January 16, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted January 16, 2023 You need to cover up those holes either way, as there is now a possibility of light leaks.
williamj Posted January 16, 2023 Share #5  Posted January 16, 2023 If you’re going to tape over the area use gaffer tape so there’s no residue left behind when the tape is removed. I know of some resellers who won’t touch a camera that has been taped due to tape residue left behind.
Pyrogallol Posted January 16, 2023 Share #6 Â Posted January 16, 2023 I little blob of two part epoxy glue. Prop the camera up with that end pointing down so that the glue just fills the holes without dripping inside.

The top will have to come off and a new strap lug sourced. In the meantime electrical tape is good, the edge is thin so it's less likely to lift if caught by the strap, and because the glue is made to cover plastics etc. it's very benign, if there is any residue a dab of white spirit or IPA on a cloth will wipe it off. I doubt though that the strap will wear away the chrome if you do nothing, however if it was my camera (and with no tools to remove the top plate myself) I'd use a spot of glue, superglue, or epoxy as suggested by @Pyrogallol, because you don't want the pins from the lug dropping inside. caymanlawyer Posted January 18, 2023 Author Share #8  Posted January 18, 2023 Yes, well I am somewhat nervous of using epoxy glue because of the risk of it getting into the interior of the camera, and I don't want to find that a whole roll of film has light leaks on it. Still, it seems ridiculous that a tiny plastic part falling off means a trip to a repair shop. Oh well, such is the 'Leica tax'.
