To clarify, when I shoot raw I don't have this issue with post-processing at all. So it's not underexposure or my own workflow. It's the in-camera JPEG engine that's the problem, it has massive color blotchiness in images at high ISO that don't exist when I process RAWs, at the same exposure settings, myself with Lightroom/Photomator. Well in that case your camera is defective and I advise you to consult Leica. Not even the M8 had this problem.
Advertisement Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Hi jaapv, Take a look here M11 Jpeg output. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wdahab Posted April 10 Share #42 Posted April 10 Out of curiosity have you actually even checked your camera to see what the jpeg vs raw output looks like at ISO > 8000? You can find it in all sorts of sample galleries, basically anywhere that someone has a higher ISO shot where you can see the jpeg+raw, like the dpreview gallery. https://www.dpreview.com/sample-galleries/5740841570/leica-m11-pre-production-sample-gallery-dpreview-tv/8579566801 like this pic, the jpeg has splotchy magenta and green undertones almost checkerboard throughout the whole image, which any raw engine is able to easily neutralize significantly by default when you use the RAW version. You can also see it start up at about ISO 8000 in this "high ISO test" https://www.adaminsights.com/leica-m11-high-iso-noise-tests/ (look at the wood floor, you can see it's splotchy). When I shoot RAW it's much more under control, I don't get nearly the splotchiness. There are of course areas that have bright color issues here and there, but none of the general splotchiness issues. And it's not a matter of "turn on noise reduction" as that reduces the luma noise but not the chroma noise.

[...] I don't use jpegs above 6400 iso for now. Mine were noisy at 200 iso twenty years ago (Digilux 1), then my jpeg limits went up to 400 iso (R-D1), 640 iso (M8.2), 2000 iso (M240) and 6400 iso (M11), which is plenty enough for my needs. 8000 iso will be for the M12 possibly, if not the EVF-M (or M11-V). We should know more this month, if rumors come tue.
