Kamurah Posted March 2, 2020 Share #2966 Posted March 2, 2020 (edited) As cat shots go....that one is pretty sexy! Great job. Curious....was your first sensor replacement done before they had a permanent "fix" for the issue? I ask because Leica USA told me they had not needed to replace any sensors since the final solution was put in place. Curious....was your first sensor replacement done before they had a permanent "fix" for the issue? I ask because Leica USA told me they had not needed to replace any sensors since the final solution was put in place. My first sensor was replaced FOC in March 2015, with the same type vers.1 sensor. This was before the vers.2 or "permanent fix" sensor became available around Oct. 2015. Late last year I picked up signs of corrosion, Leica informed me that I would have to pay for the sensor replacement. After much arm wrestling with them, I eventually paid and had it replaced 2 weeks ago. Even though I've come to terms with having to pay, I'm still pissed off with Leica's attitude of "take it or leave it". This after they replaced one faulty sensor with the same type of faulty sensor, and when that failed as well, they demand that the customer pay for this. BTW I have the exact same issue with my M9, also due for a 2nd sensor replacement. It's also a vers.1 sensor. I believe that none of the vers.2 sensors have shown signs of corrosion. I've followed your story on the Forum and your bargain $257- Monochrom, well done! You're going to love this camera. I have several Leica film cameras as well as digital- M9, CL, M10, SL & SL2, however the Monochrom1 is by far still my favourite Leica camera.
Kamurah Posted March 2, 2020 Share #2968 Posted March 2, 2020 Thank you for the info! I agree wholeheartedly with your position. Given the premium these cameras demand, it makes zero sense that Leica has switched to a "let the customer pay for our mistake". This is especially true since the company outright admitted it was a design flaw. If this was an automobile, and the admitted design flaw was directly coupled to the proper operation of the car, they would not be allowed to pass along the financial burden of correcting the error to the customer. Furthermore, the justification they gave for the switch makes little sense. If their records indicated a majority of M9 / M9M's had been corrected, why alter a 'successful' replacement program with one that will only garner ill will from their customers? No. Leica needs to keep the goodwill going indefinitely, or at least until every last M9 or M9M that was manufactured has the proper sensor inside. I bit the bullet because the financial outlay was justifiable for me given how little I paid for the body. If I had purchased this camera at market value as a 'sensor replaced' (they don't identify up front which variant of sensor is the replacement) used M9M from a reputable dealer, I would be incensed at having to fork out another wad of cash to correct a known defect previously covered under Leica's umbrella policy. Sorry...rant over. Back to the wonderful pics.

Jeff Mmm - I deliberately used the word 'effect', rather that 'perspective'. If I'd stood on that same spot and used a 105mm lens on that same scene (and not cropped into it), the result would have been the same - a slight telephoto effect. Crop a 28mm shot, and you get a 35mm effect. Crop a 35mm shot, and you get a 50mm effect. And so on. It's one of the selling points of the Leica Q2. The perspective only changes, as you point out, when you move towards, or away from, the subject.

With the M8, we often used the terminology 'cropped or reduced effective field of view' rather than 'telephoto effect', which sounded to me like a quality that a telephoto lens would impart, separate from its angle of view. All good. Jeff
