I'm not sure why the remnant jpeg designation is still there. Edited October 31, 2019 by fotografr

You're right - this shot has been post-processed. I don't know what your experience of the M Monochrom is, so forgive me if I'm telling you anything you already know. I only ever shoot RAW (DNG) files on my M Monochrom. If you get the exposure right, RAW files, straight from the camera tend to look grey and flat - they need to be worked on. I have a set of tools plugged into my version of Photoshop, which show up (on the right - in mustard colour). I can click 'safe levels and contrast', and this immediately makes the image look punchier. The important thing is that it stays within parameters which won't blow out the highlights or block up the shadows. Once that's done, I can fine-tune the image in increments (also in mustard, on the right) up to 30% for either the shadows or the highlights. The most important thing is that it works upon layers. The image needs to be flattened (the layers are combined) after each action. The process is described as 'non-destructive' because it doesn't damage the file you are working on. You don't create banding or artefacts the way you would if you Photoshop an image without using layers. After that I just use the dodging and burning tools to finish the image. Again, within layers. You can see some heavy dodging I've done on the cheek of the woman on the right of the picture. Best wishes, Colin Welcome, dear visitor! Flight959 Posted November 5, 2019 Share #2670 Posted November 5, 2019 I was able to take my Monochrom for a spin around NYC. Every time I use this camera I get such hit and miss results... and its miss way more than hit. Out of 30 shots i may get 2 keepers. Anyway here are two which I felt were keepers. Taken on an M9M with 28 Elmarit. NYC Public Library ground floor corridor. Welcome, dear visitor! I seem to get results when I'm not trying. Other shots where I've really put the effort in are rubbish. The camera is totally chalk n cheese for me.
otto.f Posted November 6, 2019 Share #2675 Posted November 6, 2019 (edited) Sounds still a bit strange to me. If there’s something that surprises me on this camera, it is that scenes are working in B&W that wouldn’t have worked on film. I’m almost never disappointed though. Also, I use filters a lot less than in the beginning. It turned out that the effect you want to attain with them on film, is often feasible without the filter. The camera is designed to produce images that are flat out of the camera. Post processing makes them sing. You'll get far better results this way than with a camera that does all the processing internally.
