Is that a bokeh King? Did I miss something? Very nice anyway

It is one of my two Bokeh Kings, well one of the twins. (I have the 35mm Summicron IV too). But the 40mm is "better" in several aspects.

  • No coma at all (my Canadian 35/IV has some), and higher colour contrast as a difference.
  • You know how the 50mm Summicron version 3 is famous for micro contrast - well this Summicron/C, = M-Rokkor, has some of that magic too. And the transfer of the colour channels almost equal out in transmission.

My 40mm has returned in February from a serious hospitalisation. It had developed quite some Schneideritis during Covid time, the glass was crying so to say, and along with a CLA the lens was polished.

I just got my 28 Summicron back from the local repair shop, and it's nice to have it back. They had taken it apart and rebuilt it because it was disassembling itself again. They say they've used a good bit of Locktite on the threads, so hopefully it'll hold for a few years. Great lens that, but the way it's put together is surprising. That's the second rebuild - the first was by Leica - it's required in the 11 years I've owned it. No amount of careful handling can quell its desire to fall apart.

Colin, in case no one told you, it's not appropriate to steal a W Eugene Smith photo and post it here as your own.

Sehr gut!  I really like the tones, the gesture, the composition, the light.  Really nice street portrait.

Thanks a lot! This was actually just a spontaneous shoot during a little walk after dinner. But the M9M (which I planned to sell so often but am happy I never did) has its own magic.

Next month I’ll be back and take more time for a shoot, either with the M9M or medium format film.

It's been sometime since I posted here but fun coming back to see what you are all posting, and for the love of this first MM.  I also considered selling mine and have been on the fence.  Then I take it out, it's fun in the field and the files are so nice to work with on the desktop.

These were made last year one Sunday afternoon  at Coney Island

The second photo especially is a compliment for the photographer, the camera and their working together. And of course the decisive moment.

Thank you Otto. That one was fun as I saw the scene and had no time to think!
