Likaleica Posted August 15, 2018 Share #2144 Posted August 15, 2018 Another desert surf photo. Unfortunately, this one made me discover possible corrosion (upper right corner) in my camera that had the CCD replaced. Welcome, dear visitor! Likaleica Posted August 23, 2018 Share #2153 Posted August 23, 2018 I think I have too much time on my hands. I looked at the number of posts in this thread since 10 May 2015 vs. the number of total posts in the Monochrom type 2 shots thread since the first on 9 May 2015. 1038 MM vs 867 M246. If anything I would expect more M246 posts because new owners would be more excited to make and post pictures, at least in the beginning. And, no, I didn't look at the slope of the curves over time. Obviously this is multifactorial (# cameras produced/purchased, # owners who subscribe to this forum, subscribing owners who post, etc) but if all else is equal it does kind of suggest more enthusiasm, dare I say passion, in MM1 owners. And I think that is reflected in the qualitative comments in the two threads.

Likaleica Posted August 23, 2018 Share #2155 Posted August 23, 2018 It seems to me that often people comment on the "film-like quality" or the organic or more gritty quality of their MM1 files compared to MM246. Wilfredo is one who comes to mind, but there are many others. It's a common theme as you scroll through the pages. I've not used a MM246 so I can't make a comment.
thebarnman Posted August 23, 2018 Share #2156 Posted August 23, 2018 Not sure I agree about the contrast - it is an image of mid-tones. Yea, but the image above further up taken in Glasgow, UK. was shot with a Leica M9-P, 50mm Summilux ASPH. Not even a monochrome camera for this monochrome thread. But I guess oh well right? Though I really do like that image.

Forgot which thread I was posting in. But, promise, all other shots I posted in this thread were on an M Mono mk1

And I think that is reflected in the qualitative comments in the two threads. Or it could simply be those who were very excited about the prospects of owning a MM bought the first one that came out. Those who waited to see how it was all shaking out for the Leica MM decided to wait and buy the 2nd one when that came out. About the differences in quality. I have to agree, the first MM does look a bit more gritty in it's image quality, but that look can be mimicked closely with the newer one. So what do you want? Lower resolution or higher resolution? The higher resolution version tends to have smoother image quality.
otto.f Posted August 23, 2018 Share #2160 Posted August 23, 2018 Eastbourne, July 2016 - Leica M Monochrom mk1, 50mm Summilux ASPH Here we see, IMO, that an M246 idea of b&w is also possible with MM1
