6 bit coding detection on Leica M to Adaptor L vs manual selection of M lenses on menu

Recommended Posts

Frankly, there is a perceived understanding in everyone.

If there is nothing to read, there are 2 scenarios - either uncoded lens or third party adapter who does not transfer.

I don’t know amongst those who contributed still have the SL (601) today in their hands or not.

I do. I use the third party adapter. I put my 50 APO M (coded)

it will not automatically detect the 50 APO obviously. I go to the bottom right camera button and chose select lens and a drop down

its allows me to choose R of M lenses. I pick M lenses and in the drop down list, i choose 50mm f2.0 APO model number. Then this is applied and stays there until i next manually go into key on 21mm Summilux M which stays until i mount my Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM, which I will select Leica 50mm f1,4 summilux pre-asph as the preferred profile which stays on until next change.

Typo R or M lenses.

Thank you all for the lively contributions to make this subject matter clearer. Much appreciated.

Conclusions:

1. The SL (601) can embed M or R lens profiles onto DNGs captured because it is an in-camera action by manually selecting the M or R lens profile in Menu. Even if non-Leica adaptors (with no electronic contacts) are used. This enables all non 6-bit coded lenses (vintage, other Brands) to be applied a certain Leica M or R lens profile of the SL (601) user’s choice. Lens profile corrections need to be turned on in LR. One can also choose to turn off in LR. Source (Leica Service Center, Singapore)

2. EXIF files can be generated even when non-Leica adaptors are used. There is however an absence of lens info.

3. Leica M to adaptor L is the most convenient as it interfaces seamlessly all 6-bit coded lens information to the SL (601) to enable lens profile corrections (of that 6 bit code) to automatically take place. One can also choose to turn off in LR.
