Nigel Craig Posted December 25, 2022 Share #1 Posted December 25, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve just ordered an LTM to L mount adapter so that I can try my 1949 50/3.5 and 1958 50/2.8 Elmars on Panasonic S1R - is there a risk of damage if the lens is mounted in the collapsed position? Advertisement Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Hi Nigel Craig, Take a look here Can collapsible Elmar 5cm damage Panasonic S1R?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
250swb Posted December 26, 2022 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2022 Given the S1R is full frame logic suggests there shouldn't be a problem, the lens distance from flange to film/sensor is always going to be the same so if the lens mounts on a digital M, which it does, it will mount on an L mount camera as well with appropriate adapters. You could measure it to reassure yourself, mount the adapter and measure from the face of the flange to the first thing inside the camera that would be touched by the lens (probably the sensor frame), then measure the retracted lens, remembering that a few millimetres is as good as a mile. Pyrogallol Posted December 26, 2022 Share #3 Posted December 26, 2022 (edited) There is risk of damage to any camera if you mount a collapsible lens in the collapsed position. You should always pull the lens out to its operating position before attempting to fit it to the camera, so that it doesn’t bump into the rangefinder mechanism. If in doubt about any camera body then just don’t collapse it. Edited December 26, 2022 by Pyrogallol

Your sensor is safe. Just check visually in your S1R if there is nothing near the sides of the flange that could be touched by the lens in collapsed position.
