This is the effect of the bomb cyclone on the river near my house. Forty-eight hours of sub-zero F temperatures combined with 30 to 50 mph winds actually froze the waves in place. I was dressed in the kind of Marmot outerwear that people use to climb Mt Everest and I was still only able to be out for about 20 minutes. The wind pushes the cold through every small opening. This one is brutal.

I was out in it moving snow for a while yesterday.  I get to spend several hours in pursuit of moving snow today.  Not quite as brutal today, but still not going to be a good time.

I've got a Marmot knit hat (I call it my Dork Hat cause it looks so dorky, but man is it warm) I got thirty some years ago when I worked at a climbing store. With that, and about fifty layers, I was able to be outside yesterday for about 15 minutes cleaning the walk. We had -10º F with 35 mph winds, so it was rather brisk.

Really like your river pic fotografr, it feels like the weather outside.

Best,

-Tim

Thanks, Tim. One thing I've learned after living in this climate for a few decades is that I don't care how dorky I look at long as I'm warm. Cheers, Brent

Okay, sorry, it wasn't shot with a Leica, but it is the only pic I have of me in the dork hat.

My first day at Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota (Dec 25, 1967) it was 24 below F with a 30-knot wind.  I'm no longer used to that and felt colder here yesterday morning a 5F with a stiff wind.

My family moved to Wisconsin from the Pacific Northwest when I was starting my sophomore year in high school. That first winter I walked 12 blocks to school with a light jacket similar to what the "Marlboro Man"  wore. No hat, no gloves. Now I wouldn't last five minutes dressed like that. I think it's called getting old. Our circulation isn't what it used to be.
