Michael-IIIf Posted December 19, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted December 19, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) As you can see it is not the world's most comfortable restaurant but the food has been dependably excellent and very good value. It will be a shame to see this characterful block redeveloped into (presumably) another nondescript multinational store.

I'm another who has never seen this place tucked away, as it is, on the South side of The Strand and I have walked past their front door three times in the last week alone! Having checked-out their menu I'd be very keen to sample their menu next time I'm in the area......and hungry............ As far as the proposed redevelopment is concerned this is what The India Club have written on their website seen on the link in Michael's OP; "The landlord has recently served us with a notice to modernise and run their own hotel from the property. If this fails, they want a crippling 80% increase in rent..." I understand why landlords wish to maximise revenue but I am sick and tired of witnessing the ability these people have to close-down such establishments without much chance of their extortionate demands being overturned by the courts. Sadly, over the past few years, I've watched three of my own clients - as well as two central London-based photographers whom I used to assist - being, in effect, forced out of their premises (and, ultimately, buisnesses) as they each were unable to meet the inordinately vast increases in rent which were proposed when their leases came up for renewal. Thanks for the post, Michael. Philip. Edited December 24, 2022 by pippy

He was already paying a handsome W1 rent, and rates, but the landlord cleared all the tenants out and demolished the '70s block he had been in, and rebuilt it. Now his former address is a swanky gallery, doubtless four times the rent his business could ever manage. He had been employing 12 people, I doubt the gallery employs as many. Such is the way the West End is changing.
