What stops you asking them, not us? They would know.

Well I typed that when I woke up and the store isn't open then. That and this is a forum where people ask questions... and this is a thread about a similar issue.... and people have returned their cameras...

UK based but not exactly near the dealer. I could visit though.

Should I bring along the box and all other bits?

When I have sent my M9 off to Germany via the Leica Store in Mayfair they have always wanted to have just the camera - no extras (strap, thumbgrip, etc). So I think it very unlikely they'd want the box - I'd just take the camera and probably a receipt.

I have found Leica Mayfair to be really nice to deal with, so if I needed to send anything back to Germany for repair I would take it to them.

I thought that you had asked a valid question.
I returned an M240 via the supplying dealer in the U.K., and from recollection they recommended that I remove the battery as well.

BTW: Remember there’s an ignore button.

If you think they can arrange a straight replacement at the shop, then they'll presumably want everything (though in this case, of course, there's a chance the new camera may have the same problem). If it's definitely going to be a repair, then I imagine they'll only want the camera.

Don't worry about him...

As others have mentioned, they do not want the box or anything.  Also take the battery out (but reattach the battery cover).  Just the camera and the body cap.

Thanks, I'm going to call the leica store tomorrow to get their feedback. The scratching for me isn't as bad as some others have posted, it seems intermittent. I've run a film through and removed it without developing and I can see a faint line intermittently down across the film.

Originally I noticed it in some scans maybe 40pc. I can at home, the odd thing is the first 8 rolls I never noticed it at all, and when I have gone back to look at those negs the line is very very intermittent, maybe 10pc and didn't show up at all on scans. The only thing I've changed is when I load I pre tightened the film in the cannister to get instant feedback so I know it's winding on OK. I didn't do that when I first got the camera. So I wondered if pre tightening the film in the cannister has somehow made the issue worse.

As I said it's not continous on scans or on undeveloped film. But I guess neither is it ideal!

When was your camera manufactured? It should state month and year on the outer box…

Frankly, if I wanted a new M6, I'd wait until July/August before ordering one to (hopefully) ensure the "bad" cameras were flushed out of the dealer inventory/Leica production.  I wouldn't buy a used 'new' M6 under any circumstances without verifying the build date as something similar - Jul/Aug, 2023.

So this is an MP that I have an issue with. I will check the date on the box when I get home but it was bought new in October.

Just phoned the store, they will look at it on Saturday they said, but apparently if it has to get sent to Germany it will take up to 6 months to be repaired!

SIX MONTHS

Good grief.  This tells you that Leica just cares about selling you the product, not taking care of their customers after the sale.

The repair is replacing the old pressure plate with a new (hopefully good) one.  That takes maybe 30 minutes.  Maybe.

Is your camera under warranty? Demand an exchange/replacement. 6-months might as well be never.

I would rather pay for DAG (or another independent shop if you're not in the U.S.) to replace the pressure plate than wait 6 months.

They said I had six weeks to get a replacement. I purchased in October, so we'll past that!

Where does the 6 weeks come from (not sure where you live)?

When Leica failed to repair the shutter on my 6 month old M240, the dealership asked me to drop it off so they send it to Leica for 2nd attempt. Another 9weeks, I thought, so I quoted the U.K. sale of goods act and they agreed to replace it with new camera.

I live in the UK. Purchased from the leica store in London.

Also, not sure how silly this is or not, but I did wonder if they replaced it would the new one do the same thing! I guess they could run a roll through it instore and immediately know.

The idea of taking it to a third party for repair is a potential I guess, no idea who would be able to sort it in the UK though?

Just six months! I mean come on, actually what they said was six weeks to assess then up to six months to repair.

It took me about 2 minutes to assess whether mine was scratching or not.  Nice of them to give themselves six weeks to do that.

Six months is beyond a joke. I would demand improvement, failing that a replacement camera having the required fix to the pressure plate, or a full refund.
