Idawhat Posted November 24, 2022 Share #2 Posted November 24, 2022 The hawk is a very serious looking bird. Seems the mockingbirds must be working as a team. I imagine one mockingbird would not try this on its own.
Guest Posted November 25, 2022 Share #3 Posted November 25, 2022 (edited) We feed and water a great number of birds in our backyard… garden. Hawks love to cool themselves in the birdbath when temperatures are high in summer. Watching them I have realized they seldom go for smaller birds … even Jays and Mockingbirds when there are easier prey with more flesh … squirrels rabbits cats etc. They will cull a fat slow dove when no other prey is tempting and near. Their favorite attack is to fly the dove into a window so that it is stunned and they don’t have to work at chasing it very far. Always know when they are around as every bird in the neighborhood calls alarm and they all scatter … probably why it is usually a dove as they are the slowest to respond and flee.
