Henners Posted November 19, 2022 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey everyone, I've just bought an M10-R after going back and forth between it and the M11. In the end I saw a silver M10-R (I wanted black ideally) on eBay for £5100, just out of warranty but excellent condition and barely used. I offered £4,800 which was accepted so I believe that's a good price although I saw a black on had sold for £4,500 but still, I hope that it was a good deal! I've got a 50 cron V4 (I own a M6 and many years ago had an M9) and now need to pick up a nice wide. I was thinking (not stuck on) the Elmarit 28mm but I'm not sure which version to go for. I'm also considering swapping out my cron for a lux now that I'm all in on Leica. I was hoping to get some help on which 50 Lux to go for as well, I like sharpness as much as the next guy but not at the complete replacement of character. I do love the 1.4 separation look of the lux and the slightly better bokeh at the edges. Can't wait to start shooting with a rangefinder again, my Fuji X-E3 was great but not having to worry about tons of focus settings and terrible manual focusing will be amazing. Thanks for any help. Advertisement Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Hi Henners, Take a look here M10-R being delivered, what wide lens?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mediumformula Posted November 19, 2022 Share #2 Posted November 19, 2022 Even the 50 Summilux Asph has a lot of character wide open in my opinion. And it's great stopped down. I would hold on to that v4 50mm Summicron though. It's a great size/weight for when you don't want a larger 50 like the Summilux Asph on your camera.

Henners Posted November 19, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted November 19, 2022 Thanks for the suggestions, I'll go do some research on them. Great shot with the 50 lux Huss, loving the painterly look. One question as nobody has commented on the price I paid, was it maybe too much? It's hard to gauge the market, I did some Googling and thought it seemed like a good price but perhaps not? jaapv Posted November 20, 2022 Share #5 Posted November 20, 2022 Every camera-lens combination has its own character. It is very hard beforehand to judge what your preferences would be. I would just mount the Summicron 50 (which is an excellent len anyway) and shoot the camera for a few weeks. It is perfectly possible, even likely, that you won't feel a need to replace the lens. After that you can decide which lenses would be best for you. Don't forget to look at Voigtländer, they offer a number of very good lenses at highly competitive prices. The Nokton 1.5 is a serious competitor for the Summilux, for instance.
BruceRH Posted November 20, 2022 Share #6 Posted November 20, 2022 I paid $5500 USD this past summer for my lightly used M10-R in black. I would say what you paid is a fair price. I bought a used Leica Elmar 24mm/3.8 for my wide. For 28mm I bought the Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron Asph Type II Enjoy your M10-R!
hteasley Posted November 20, 2022 Share #7 Posted November 20, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) 21mm Super Elmar is awesome. Highly recommend that one.
Henners Posted November 20, 2022 Author Share #8 Posted November 20, 2022 Thanks for the responses, I've been doing some more research and am looking in to the Voigtlander 28mm f2 VM Ultron, and about to check out the Zeiss 28mm Biogon T 2.8. Does anyone here own either of those?

If you look hard enough you will always find someone who paid less, and others who paid more.

Zeiss 28mm Biogon seems no slouch and there is a very good offer currently on it at Park Cameras (£499 reduced from £899).
Henners Posted November 20, 2022 Author Share #11 Posted November 20, 2022 (edited) haha, well I've gone with the Voigtlander 28mm f2 VM Ultron AND the Voigtlander 50mm f1 Nokton ASPH. As they're so much cheaper than the Leica alternatives and the performance looks excellent on both, I'll be keeping my cron as a nice walkabout 50mm. I don't feel compelled to get anything longer than a 50mm so reckon I'm good for my setup. Thanks tons for the help, can't wait to get out there with my new kit. robb Posted November 21, 2022 Share #12 Posted November 21, 2022 I’m a huge fan of my nokton 1.0. You will love it. I have the latest 28 summicron but have heard great things about the Ultron. Robb

jakontil Posted November 24, 2022 Share #14 Posted November 24, 2022 You can never go wrong with a 50 lux
Photon42 Posted November 24, 2022 Share #15 Posted November 24, 2022 The 50 Lux present iteration is the most versatile lens I have ever owned in the M space. It focusses down to 70cm with the rangefinder, is very sharp but not extreme, has a very pleasant out-of-focus rendering, it is compact for its performance and is also not too heavy, pretty especially in the non-brass version. Pair it with a nice 28 and you are sent for a long time.

If you want more details about this one PM me *Edit: oh you got it! Good. I will never get rid of this lens unless I can afford a 28 Summaron. Also; hopefully you got the black paint brass, the focus tab wears to white not brass. The rest of the lens does brass but not the focus tab. Henners Posted November 25, 2022 Author Share #17 Posted November 25, 2022 (edited) It does seem like a really nice lens, the reviews rave about it and I can see why. I've not had a chance to take it out properly but my test shots look great. I'm hoping that it has that Leica 3D depth but time will tell. Do you have any shots where you've captured that feeling of depth in a photo? I know it's a little bit intagible but I never see it with Fujifilm etc, only really with Leica and usually only their own glass from my brief and not very in-depth research. Really hoping that it isn't just a Leica glass thing. I need to find myself some nice light with nice contrast, a good foreground/background and try to capture that depth-ness. EDIT: Some of these pics have some of that nice depth-ness I'm looking for (kids in the bedroom and the cat)! Can't wait to get out there. https://jacktaka.com/voigtlander-28mm-f2 Edited November 25, 2022 by Henners
Henners Posted November 26, 2022 Author Share #18 Posted November 26, 2022 (edited) Out of interest, should I be choosing a lens profile manually in the camera for the Voigtlanders or just leave it 'off'? Having the exif info for focal length would be handy but not if it applies corrections to the image in a negative way, since it's not the Leica lens it thinks it has on. Entirely up to you. Why not try a few comparative shots with and without a lens selected (be careful camera doesn't default to last manual setting if you had one). The adjustments applied are fairly mild for most lenses, so don't be surprised if you can't see any difference.
