Leica had recalled S lenses do to failing motor chip It's better if the gear replacement has already been done, but it's not essential if you aren't in a hurry and you can negotiate a better deal. Leica offers a flat-fee motor gear upgrade, which includes a full CLA and calibration. I don't know what the cost is these days (check with your local distributor), but last time I checked it was entirely reasonable.
