Is there ant major difference using the S lenses on the SL2S or SL body

For me the pluses are Size & weight and Money.

The S lenses render beautifully on the SL body.  They are slower to shoot than SL lenses, but (to me) they have a more organic look as compared to  the more "perfect" SL lenses.  Rob

The photos below were taken of Alcatraz a few years ago using the SL 601 w S 120.

It's better if the gear replacement has already been done, but it's not essential if you aren't in a hurry and you can negotiate a better deal.

Leica offers a flat-fee motor gear upgrade, which includes a full CLA and calibration. I don't know what the cost is these days (check with your local distributor), but last time I checked it was entirely reasonable. I usually budget for a full service on any used lens purchase anyway.

Motor upgrade including CLA is about 240EURO. (Very) Reasonable, I would say.
