For me, the longer "vernier-precision" focus throw is a key part of the usefulness and joy of the v.3.

Analogy: I paint a white line across a street, and ask you to go up the street 100m with your car, and then drive towards the line at any constant speed you choose. And then stop, with one brake application, with your front tire exactly centered on the white line. As incentive, I will offer you $AU 100 if you can do it exactly. (and yes, you can have a Go-Pro mounted on the fender to see the wheel better!)

In order to win the prize, would you choose to drive to the line at: 1kph, 10kph, 30kph, or 60kph?

With the v.3, the analogy is sneaking up on precise focus (at f/2.0) at 1 or 10 kph instead of 30 or 60. And the "prize" is better-focused pictures. Speed isn't everything.

But certainly, to each her/his own.

Adan, but then, the V5 - as the factory sent it with its smooth lubrication - will allow a very quick and precise forward backward movement. This allows very precise quick movement of the rangefinder. The short throw combines with the smoothest handling ever. [I also have that capability in 90mm macro, 75mm -rit]. So the short throw is part of a haptic 'feedback system'.

Alas, my V5 broke (aperture ring became stop-less; front was a bit loose, bayonet a bit stuck), and then, after it came back from Solms now it had standard thick grease, and the whole possibility of quick movements was gone. In this latter case I agree with the analogy of driving a truck at 90mph ... You have to push rather hard so it becomes less supple.

I subsequently last year sent lens V5 to a Dutch repair shop for slightly nicer movement; I like it how it is now.

I am asking cause I am looking for a nice 50mm with soft organic film look for my Leica M10.

Hi there - thanks for the feedback . I provided a step-by-setp of my approach in an "digital to analogue edits' thread on this forum. Unfortunately I can't find it now, but perhaps Ernst (@evikne) might be kind enough to link to the thread in general so you can have a look for the post and see my process, as well as that of others.

I mention also there that using lenses with an analogue-look gives the best starting points for these edits. For me these lenses that give the most analogue-like starting point are indeed the 50:2 v3 (seen here) and 35:2v1 for a 35mm.
