Practically all original M9 sensors and also those replaced before the cause for sensor corrosion was found and remedied (approx. autumn 2015) will eventually develop sensor corrosion. The camera may also become useless because of some other fault requiring replacement of parts no longer available.

There seems to be a lot of hype regarding M9 image quality, driving used prices up. The M9 is a great camera, but because of the mentioned serviceability issues I would not pay very much for one, at least not for one without a post-autumn 2015 replaced sensor.

Hi. I have a m9-p from 2010. The sensor is without corrosion and has not changed. Everything works well)

If I understand it correctly environmental factors (humidity) may play a role, but over time the risk of sensor corrosion, or more exactly sensor coating detaching, increases. In my M9 it appeared when it was about 7 years old. Not very visible, but fortunately I detected it at an early stage and just in time to get the free sensor replacement.

Any M9 that does not have this issue (yet) has great user value for its owner, but cameras with the original sensor should be less valuable than those with a replaced one when sold.

I figure my Leica repair invoice showing redesigned sensor replacement on my M9M is probably worth at least $1000 US on resale.

Exactly the same for me.

I have an M9-P and the sensor glass only started separating two months ago. I had Kolari Vision do the replacement with Schott BG-39 glass and the results are fine.

I called Kolari before sending it in and discussed all the options and disaster scenarios and felt they were perfectly capable. I would recommend their service without hesitation.

You can view a DNG & JPG from the repaired camera: Sample DNG & JPG
