gyoung Posted September 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2007 Can anyone recommend where I could get a 1930s Leica with a sticky shutter repaired reliably in London or St Albans in the UK? Dazzer Not in London or St. Albans, but Malcolm Taylor is the best, he is in deepest Shropshire/Herefordshire borders so mail is the best bet unless you fancy a trip out to the countryside. If you do go there, you can see lovely things like stereo LTM leicas etc! He did a superb job on my III a couple of years ago, and also sorted out a problem on my M3 which had two other repairers scratching their heads. Not cheap but the best. stunsworth Posted September 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 25, 2007 Another vote for Malcolm Taylor. The people in Luton are meant to be very good too, but I've never used them. Malcolm did a repair to my M6 and later to a friends IIIG. Excellent work in both cases.
asmith Posted September 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 25, 2007 Another vote for Malcolm, Taylor. He has worked on my IIf. IIIf. and IIIg as wellas on various lenses. I can't fault him for quality of work, price or promptness. Alwyn
Guest flatfour Posted September 29, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 29, 2007 Malcolm Taylor would be my choice. 01568 770542. He has worked on several cameras for me and all work has been excellent and reasonably priced. I have known him for 25 years.
Paul Hart Posted September 30, 2007 Share #7 Posted September 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) CRR of Luton are excellent - they restored an M4 I have and it is like new - but I think they are snowed under at the moment so probably not the choice if you're in a hurry. Malcolm Taylor has serviced an M3 and IIIf for me and he cannot be improved upon. You get a delightful hand-written olde-worlde invoice detailing every little part he's replaced etc. Nice chap, too. mikebidwell Posted April 22, 2008 Share #8 Posted April 22, 2008 Malcom Taylor is very good! He recently worked on my Leica IIIg and is now looking at a IIIf Red Dial I recently purchased. I'd certainly reccommend him:)
