Hi Everybody

Here my query is about new battery for Leica M9 orignal one is 1600mAh but third party one is 1700mAh is it appropriate to use third party one .Please guide me.

If the third party is a reputable battery manufacturer then I’d go there, especially if the battery was cheaper. On saying that, most of the batteries I use in my cameras - mainly Fuji - are OEM, but then they don’t cost as much as Leica batteries.

I wouldn’t know how much a replacement battery is for a M9 if I’m honest. I only know the Leica replacement for M10 is £140 😳

I use an 1800 mAh third party battery in my M9 that cost me about £35 (pounds sterling). The battery works fine but the battery gauge on the camera is not always an accurate reflection of the actual charge remaining in the battery as it sometimes shows <10% when in fact there are many many more shots still available from the battery and the camera still keeps shooting. This is a minor inconvenience for a battery costing a quarter of the cost of a Leica named battery.

I don't think I've ever taken more than 150 pics in one day so I've never used up a full battery in one day and don't know exactly how many shots a full battery can shoot as I often charge the battery before it is properly empty.  

I bought it via Amazon from BatteryUpgrade.com who have excellent customer after sales service.

Maybe you need to discharging completly the battery from time to time ?

IIRC Leica recommend that periodically.

Buy OEM and be done with it.

Please describe what's wrong with those.

I never use third party battery with Leica M, just curious.

I’m surprised the chargers don’t fully discharge the batteries, before they charge them back up, plus allow you to set a limit on the maximum charge, ie 80%.

Not discharging with every charging may be the answer.

Having respect to customer own risk can be also the answer.

Really right choice for me, but not for you or some of us, that's life.

№1456 thread about M9 battery. How many we have even on this page? Just spend sometime to read previous threads. All of the information is where. Including which 3dp batteries.

I purchased two in 2017. They still are as good as OEM from 2016.

I let my batteries (3 x OEM, bought with camera) drain to less than 5%, sometimes zero and in sequence. By that I mean I use the batteries in rotation, draining them each time they’re used. I’ve always got 2 fully charged in my bag, along with the one in the camera.

Same situation here - 3 original batteries still fine, used in rotation.
