Alberti Posted September 26, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ik bought a Canon lens in Japan through TheBay. It arrived with the diaphragm in disarray, stuck, slightly closed unevenly. The aperture ring moved hard (fat turned to thick gum); also the focus is heavy. The lens itself is marvelous (probably never used . .) and there are no signs of any optical problem. The seller directly said he would refund, and he booked a return for me. - But this weekend me thought up (danger ahead): would it be possible to repair the diaphragm easily? The seller would probably encourage that too. What would you do? Albert Welcome, dear visitor! But look how "nice" the lens is, BW brings it out best (in colour it has a slightly low contrast indoors): So that is not bad at all. (M10-R) The picture has some charm the Canon 35 F2.8 has. It is slightly different from my Summicrons, which are stronger in several aspects.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Pyrogallol Posted September 26, 2022 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2022 If the seller is paying the postage and you haven’t incurred too much import duty I would send it back. Fixing it yourself might be possible if you could find your way into it and the diaphragm blades are not bent. my one has broken glass, but came almost free from my Leica repair man. nitroplait Posted September 26, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2022 I would return it - on the sellers expense both ways. It is not as described. Don't encourage misrepresentation.
Erato Posted September 26, 2022 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2022 (edited) Don't keep it because of the concerns about potential defective blades due to the misaligns or did not locked-in properly during the CLA process before they sold it to you. Alberti Posted September 26, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted September 26, 2022 Agree to all; also it would leave me as having the financial risk (what if it is more costly) or project risk (what if it fails, because a part like the aperture slider is broken). Oh well, the sunk cost is € 18 handling, expensive for that one nice picture 😪 I also relooked at the pictures I took in strong light and saw some halo / glow in out of focus areas albert
spydrxx Posted September 26, 2022 Share #6 Posted September 26, 2022 Not a hard decision, I'd return it promptly.
pippy Posted September 27, 2022 Share #7 Posted September 27, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) As others have said; it's not a difficult question to answer. Send it back. P.
jankap Posted September 28, 2022 Share #8 Posted September 28, 2022 Have you checked Ebay for other ones? And there look at the sold items! Repairing will cost at least 100 to 200 Euro. Perhaps look in the fredmiranda- and the RFF-Forums too.
