M11 for me Posted October 12, 2022 Share #21 Posted October 12, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) vor 1 Stunde schrieb DenverSteve: I, and thousands of photographers, shot weddings for decades and decades with manual focus cameras including Hasselblads that had to be hand cranked and some 35mm cameras without any issue. Doing so without autofocus as well was never a problem. Of course you can do it. I would recommend a couple of bodies so you can have different focal length lenses but there shouldn’t be any problem. If there is, it’s operator error. Since we have AF on our cameras I think that manual focus is out. But i do not know thousands of photographers. Just a few. And these few use very fast modern AF cameras. Me included. The point is always what you mean by shooting a wedding: If you shoot always groups of people and you have good light with lens at f/8 then that is fine. But this is definitely not my style of photography. I think that this is the misunderstanding. I never said that you can NOT shoot a wedding. I just do not do it. I use 50mm or 135mm fast lenses. cesc Posted October 12, 2022 Share #22 Posted October 12, 2022 (edited) Last month I shot a wedding "as a guest", and I used a Leica M10 with a 28mm 2.8f. I got the type of photos that I love to shoot, candid situations that described the mood and ambiance of the moment, instead of the official photos... I think for that type of photography and M with zone focus is hard to beat. But I imagine your Q2 does this job too... Olaf_ZG Posted October 12, 2022 Share #23 Posted October 12, 2022 Don’t want to be rude, but the camera for sure is ready for weddings in the hands of a good user. Question is, are you good enough? I have done hundreds of weddings, was not in Leica then, and would love to try one with the M. Wouldn’t do it as a first shooter though. Sone things in a wedding shouldn’t be missed and as a pro you should not take this risk.
charlesphoto99 Posted October 13, 2022 Share #24 Posted October 13, 2022 I'm not a wedding shooter, but I have shot some for friends and family. The M works great, for me, just know your limits. i.e. if it calls for a lot of tele work over 90, then an M probably wouldn't be the best bet. But I'm also very quick with an M - more so than with a dslr in some ways - and one must know how to focus track and focus/recompose. Try a Monochrom and flash on the dance floor with a 24 - your wedding clients will be blown away.

Actually, there are still plenty of Hasselblad manual focus shooters out there shooting weddings. So....... manual focus is not out. Again, weddings, were done without any problems prior to digital, auto focus and auto exposure. The style of wedding photography hasn't changed, photographers just rely heavily on technology - and too frequently rely on that technology over technique. As someone stated above, if one doesn't have the requisite ability, one shouldn't use the Leica (or any other) manual equipment. And, actually, this is a Leica M forum and no Leica M shooters "have AF on our cameras". Edited October 13, 2022 by DenverSteve
