dumplings Posted September 1, 2022 Share #1  Posted September 1, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings to the forum! I am new to forum and this is my first post. I recently purchased an summarit 50mm f1.5 on Ebay. But just now I noticed that its serial number is not in the range of summarit on any source online, this for example: https://reddotcamera.net/leica-lenses/serial-number/ . My lens' serial number is 1000025. The closest match is summarit 1000000 (https://www.nocsensei.com/camera/tecnica/marco-cavina/marcocavina/leitz-summarit-50mm-115/). and accroding to the record 1000001 should be an Elmar. Want to ask the forum whether cases like this are usual in leica lens production, building a little bit more than planned and not recording them? Is this lens a valid lens? Should I report this case to the database? Thank you! the figure is attached! Welcome, dear visitor! UliWer Posted September 1, 2022 Share #2  Posted September 1, 2022 Thiele („Großes Fabrikationsbuch Leica-Objektive, 4th edition, 2022) lists numbers 999,001 - 1,001,000 as 1:1.5/5cm Summarits from 1952.

UliWer Posted September 1, 2022 Share #4  Posted September 1, 2022 It is a new book, so I fear copyright will not allow to reproduce a page here. If other sources say that No. 1,000,001 was an Elmar, I think they just didn‘t read the second „1“ in 1,001,001. 3
luigi bertolotti Posted September 4, 2022 Share #5  Posted September 4, 2022 Anyway, it decently belongs to the (not strictly ruled... 😉) breed of "fine numbers"...🙂 And even without the accordance of sources , is well known that 1000000 was a Summarit... even if the following batch woukd have been planned for Elmars, not strange that the Summarit batch originally planned to end at 1000000 had been, in real factory work, "elongated" by some dozens : several examples are reported.
