Only good thing to come out of this is if they can now repair M6 meters again.

Is that true?  I assume the meter in this camera is just the MP meter since it's just an MP.  If they could have dropped an MP meter into an old M6 to 'repair' the meter, wouldn't they have done that before?

I have no idea, just wishing it were so

If it's truly limited to 500 pieces, the market is collectors who will stash it away in a safe and watch it appreciate.

Personally, I can't think of a single reason to buy this camera over an MP.  But I prefer the non-articulating film advance, the pull-up rewind knob and the fingerprint magnet black paint.  I could live without the red dot as well...

This I feel is the biggest issue with Leica nowadays.  Its all about collectors and watching things appreciate in value.
I prefer the MP over the M6 as well, for those same reasons.

The reason to release it is as I said. Youtubers and influencers have built up the hype and therefore value of the M6, there's no technical reason behind it.

But the M6 is hyped and popular, because its price is cheap, not for any technical or logical reason.  Its a cheap M with a meter, thats really it.   This is not cheap.

Well, the 50mm Summilux asph. in "old"style has its market. Why do they produce cameras and lenses in silver chrome when they have blacks already? Why not put an M6-sticker on an MP and cause 50 pages in this forum before it is released?

WIth that I agree to some extent, but its not pretending to be the older lens, its very clearly a 50Lux ASPH with a new body.  This is trying to be an M6.

It is my educated guess that your assumption is not correct. I bet it will be sold out in a heartbeat, especially if it is a limited edition.

I am sure it will be sold out immediately as with every other Leica release recently.  But I bet if its not limited edition, it'll be easy to buy a lot sooner than an MP or 35APO will be

i’ve had zero issue using the ‘inferior’ C200 and my clients are very happy with the results.  Do u have a before and after showing the differences?

I have to look in my archive. Guess I've done a comparison with test charts.  But i don't have scans from that yet. For the pictures I've scanned from both films, I'm afraid they aren't from the same subjects and so they are not really comparable. But what I remembered was that it was harder to scan the C200 then the Superia and I found the colors of the Superia way better. Especially skin tones, but also others. Also the C200 film stripes was not as flat as the Superia.
But this was years ago.  As you see by the prices I mentioned I could have saved a lot of money by using the C200 instead off the Superia. But I decided to stay with the Superia. Now Fuji decided for me:(
But I would say the C200 was one of the best budget films. Unfortunately now you can't be sure if you still get the C200 I tested years ago today. There was some reports that on some boxes is written "Made in USA". So could be that you get Kodak stuff in there instead of the original Fuji and you can never be sure what is inside.

I did a comparison between budget and quality film here. But that was Fuji Superia Reala vs Kodak Ultramax 400.

They do this already. The meter of the M6 TTL cannot be repaired.

Are you sure about that? There was news in April that they had run out of M6 boards. They were out of TTL circuit boards for quite a while now of course.

It wasn't. MP parts could not be used to repair M6 meters.

I sense a contradiction here...

I think you mean the M6 TTL. For the M6 they already use MP parts - which is no problem (if you don't look at the price for the repair...).

Well, this is a minor fault, as the original M6 was a substandard MP. If they sell a camera which has the same standard as the MP and just call it M6, nobody will be cheated.

not thinking people will be cheated.  I am just trying to see why this exists at its price point.  Or why to buy this vs an original M6 or MP?  Once of which is significantly cheaper, and the other is arguably a much nicer camera to use

I regularly see 30 years old M6 on the second hand market which cost perhaps 30% less than a new MP - this is not cheap. I don't see any difference in the handling of an Mp and the new MP"6" - only the rewind lever (which I always hated with my M6) is different.

I see 30yr old M6s at 2800-3800.  That is cheap by Leica terms.
a new MP is nearly 5700$
I prefer the MP winder for sure over the M6 winder, but this camera was the perfect chance to actually capitalize on the M6 love right now, 4000$ and it would've been perfect. make it aluminum instead of brass, or even nickel.
you have an M6 thats more than an old one, but still has warranty and comes brand new.

To me, releasing an MP with an M6 skin for about the same price is not really in the spirit of why the M6 is popular and loved.   If its limited to 500 pieces, than I can see the price being more justified.

Woohoo! Fifty pages and the only thing we know for sure is they’re going to be snapped up by the collectors. Do we know if ther have been changes to the materials? Is it an updated meter with extended ISO? Is the rewind crank and arm stronger than the original M6? Hopefully, we will all know soon enough.
