Advertisement Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Hi Jerry Attrik, Take a look here Viewfinders for r.f. cameras. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted August 24, 2022 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2022 Not that I'm aware of. The problem will be parralax compensation. If you need to use a 280mm lens you really need an SLR (or visoflex).
Michael Geschlecht Posted August 25, 2022 Share #3 Posted August 25, 2022 (edited) Hello Jerry, Leitz made a sports finder for the 200 mm lens. First called SFTOO when introduced & later called 12035 when letter codes were replaced with numbers. There is also a SQTOO for 400mm lenses. Later changed to 12037. Both require extension tube TZFOO which was later coded 14077Q if you are not using a MECHANICAL Visoflex I between the lens & the camera body. A Visoflex I has the appropriate mounting shoe. This tube TZFOO/14077Q, which the finders attach to, has a special shoe for the finders. There does not seem to be an equivalent finder for a 280mm lens. Altho you could figure out the parameters for using a 280mm lens if you used the 200mm finder. 1 problem with using finders like these, which is sometimes also a problem with other finders & MC, MR & MR4 meters, etc,. is that the finders/meters must have their feet properly adjusted & aligned so that the finders/meters are aimed properly. Which also means choosing a distance to align them at. I use Infinity. 250swb Posted August 25, 2022 Share #4 Posted August 25, 2022 Komura made a 2x teleconverter outfit for both LTM and M mounts that came with an adjustable shoe mounted viewfinder with the longest focal length at 270mm (135mm lens x2). I had one and to be honest the image quality wasn't very good, nor the accuracy of the viewfinder at such great distances, but once upon a time it was a valid option.
Jerry Attrik Posted August 28, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted August 28, 2022 (edited) Thank you all. You have amply confirmed my thoughts. I did, at one time, have a Komura reflex housing. Not the best attempt at a Visoflex copy. The prism was held by a piece of plastic sponge and it rotted the silvering away. Many thanks to you D. Lox. The Komura teleconverter is not a reflex housing, it is a dedicated teleconverter kit, the viewfinder itself is a nice piece of equipment and beautifully made if a bit low contrast, but the optics in the 2x teleconverter don't match the quality of a Leica lens, this is what lets it down for a modern audience. Jerry Attrik Posted August 30, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted August 30, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry to have to tell you this, 250SWB; but the gadget which I have, and have had for many years, about fifty, is really a Komura reflex housing. This is the name embossed in the lens port cover. It does not look like a tele-converter but, with a bit of a squint of the eye on a dull foggy day, it can give a very good impression of an early screw fit Visoflex 2. I hope that your doubt concerning its authenticity is not an indication of extreme rarity and value. At the moment it is no more than a collection of tiny screws and odd pieces of metal jumbled together in a polythene bag. One day, about 35 years, ago I was going to re-build it until I discovered the corroded silvering and rotted plastic foam. I may yet have buy "the real thing"! All the best D. Lox You asked about a shoe mounted direct vision viewfinder for a 280mm lens, a reflex housing is not a direct vision viewfinder it uses mirrors. You also seem to have gone from once having had a Komura reflex housing (post #5) to having a Komura reflex housing (post #7) so the confusion is on your side. I do not doubt the reflex housing exists as a product once made by Komura, it was yourself that went off on a tangent (post #5) that triggered my response by way of clarification of my previous post regarding the teleconverter and its accompanying direct vision viewfinder.
