BLJRose Posted August 16, 2022 Share #1 Posted August 16, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I feel like this is a very basic question, but after looking on Google and YouTube I can't seem to find an answer. I have a Leica M3 and have never owned a film camera with a built in light meter. Looking at the Leica MP camera, does the meter take into account the input from the ISO speed from the dial or like on the M3 is just to remind you of what film you have loaded? If it doesn't take it into account how does it meter accurately and is there some internal default setting it is working off of instead? Again, feels like a basic question but even looked through Leica MP manual I downloaded and couldn't find the answer..

radialMelt Posted August 16, 2022 Share #2 Posted August 16, 2022 Hi, the meter will take into account the film speed you have set on the ISO dial on the rear door. There is an electrical connection between the door and the meter to achieve this communication. Cheers

Michael Geschlecht Posted August 17, 2022 Share #5 Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) Hello BLJRose & radialMelt, Welcome to the Forum, both. This is the place to ask questions. You don't have to stop with just 1. Best Regards, Michael Edited August 17, 2022 by Michael Geschlecht
250swb Posted August 17, 2022 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2022 Page 76 of the MP Manual (free to download from Leica) illustrates and explains the contacts on the rear door for the ISO dial "Note: With the rear panel open, three contacts (29) for transmission of the film speed settings to the camera controls/the exposure metering system can be seen there and on the camera housing. These contacts are gold plated and therefore corrosion-free and highly insensitive to dirt and dust. Special care is not necessary. However, when changing the film, you should ensure that severe soiling or direct exposure to raindrops, etc. are avoided."
