Hi everyone

I am interested to read what function do you assign to the various customizable FN buttons on your SL2 / SL2s cameras.

Please refer to picture for FN buttons numbers in your description.

Thanks.

25 - as is (Info Profiles)

20 - EVF / Display Switch

3 - Drive Mode

4 - Exposure Mode

9 - Center AF Field (although this feature is buggy)

10 - also Info Profiles

I shoot Auto-ISO 99 % of the time, so no dedicated button. Dials depend on if the lens is manual or not (M-Lens --> exposure compensation + zoom)

that will be a long list as I use 5 profiles.

each profile has a different combination.

3 profile for photos and 3 profiles for video.

If you have time, your input would be appreciated.

3: ISO
4: Exposure compensation
9: Magnification
10: Toggle Info Levels
20: EVF-LCD
21 (Joystick): AF Mode: AF-L; MF Mode: AFs.
25 (Fn): Auto ISO setting or Exposure Bracketing

I am missing the option to trigger image review (PLAY) with one of the front buttons.

I am also considering to assign exposure compensation to either Fn 3 or 4 button as I am constantly knocking off exposure by hitting the rear thumbwheel while holding the camera. So my question is does assigning exposure compensation to a Fn button cancel the exposure compensation from the rear thumbwheel?

No, assigning exposure compensation to a button does not cancel EC with the wheel.

I shoot often in M mode with Auto-ISO, and use EC via button to adjust ISO offset.

+1. This is one of the reason I prefer the 4-button layout of S, and adopted on SL.

That the image review is fixed and located on the right side of the screen on SL2x means that the camera has to be moved from the eye in order for the right button to find/press the review button. At least for me. With the three-button layout, and without the possibility to set the review button, design and minimalism seem to have trumped user experience.

What I find most helpful is installing a clear furniture or picture frame number on the FN button (25), and a smaller one on the bottom part of the front rocker (10). It gives me much more tactile feel for where those buttons are. I also have a small bumper on the front button of my M-P.

I like this configuration:

3 - Iso, makes sense to me to have the Iso there

9 - Magnify and 10 depth of field, reminiscent of mechanical depth of field preview of the old SLRs

I have set AEL to the joystick as it reminds me of AEL buttons of others SLRs and DSLRs

Not sure yet about the other buttons. Waiting to see what you guys and girls have set
