Advertisement Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Hi a.noctilux, Take a look here 35mm Summicron v4 almost useless wide open. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Recementing separated elements is technically possible, but it is about the closest thing to "open-heart surgery" for a lens. I had a 28mm f/2.8 v.3 of the same design-era (des. 1980, built 1982 by ELCAN) with complete separation (Newton rings in the "new" air gap were visible when looking though the lens). And when I sent it to Leica for 6-bit coding a couple of years ago, they would not touch it at all. Returned with diagnosis of "Balsam-fraktur; no parts available." I.E. after 32 years, Leica no longer had a complete already-cemented group to simply replace the failed cemented group, and were not going to bother trying to clean the failed cement off my elements and recement them to the necessary tolerances - at least economically. (Kinda too bad, since the lens still performed very well - just a microscopic tilting of the focus plane if doing a "brick-wall" test wide-open. 😰 ) But in that case, the separated elements were a lot smaller and more fiddly (about 1cm diameter). The Summicron's 5/6 group would be larger and easier to handle. But still tricky to get the optics perfectly centered and with a perfectly even layer of cement. There is no adverse visible effect on the (technical/optical) quality of my photos. 1

Is this fungus or separation? Is that's what's causing my issue? Welcome, dear visitor!
