Very nice picture. I never use a nd filter. Interested to know the difference if not applying the filter on this picture.

I believe he has used a soft-edge gradient filter to take the edge off the very bright section of sky, allowing for an exposure which maintains details in both the highlights and shadows.

Yes. Agreed. Photography as we know it is on its last breath. Recording reality has become easy, and manipulating the results is common place.

My father, who was born in 1923, used to say B&W photography was dead in in the 70's. He was partially wrong, and partially right. I am seeing it before my very eyes.

I imagine everybody will record their lives, and be able to edit the recording later with how to guides to make it a "Photograph." Hell, I just read an article where software can make you draw like an expert (in the digital medium). We already have voice correction software that has been used for a decade, at least.

The industrial revolution gave us carbon in the atmosphere. The digital revolution will have similar results, on many fronts.

But I like the picture. Thanks for putting up with my rant.

I hate to be so disagreeable around here lately but I disagree. If TSQR is any indication there are no shortage of actual cameras being deployed by non professionals and I really don’t think the smart phone is supplanting the camera in the way some are doom and glooming it’s any more than video is relaxing the still image.

.60 Soft ND, Soft works better, for me, here because I don't want an obvious visible hard of greater line cutting across the taller buildings on the right

.90 Hard top
.60 Soft reversed so that the contrast on the water, see lower right of frame, is reduced, not so necessary in these shots, but I often find it very necessary especially when the sun hits either the water or the glass buildings

A pelican - CL and 90/280. For some purposes this lens is very useful together with the CL because of the crop factor.
