Congratulations. I was laying in bed last night and almost pushed the buy button for the big Leica zoom for 9,500 US. I would have been shot at sunrise. 🤪

very impressive shots.

Have you considered the Leica V-Lux T.114? Look at the dedicated thread for some fine photography in the region of 400mm to 600mm. A newer version has recently been launched; but the earlier model is better value with very similar specs.

I owned it and sold it. Probably a mistake. 🤷‍♂️

I would like a longer zoom for the CL, with that in mind I could resist no longer and decided to try the Panasonic 70-200.  Haven't really done too much with it just yet but my initial thoughts are while not perfect, it's a keeper for now, until L Alliance offers something longer.  I had sort of hoped I might see it as a replacement for the 55-135 but that's a no, that still has a place in my bag for travelling light, it does replace for me a Canon 70-300L I have been using with adaptor, and R mount 180.

Cons so far - it's not long enough for safari, wildlife type stuff (of course I knew that before I bought it), it really eats your battery if IS is set to on (CL gives you a warning about this when you mount the lens), make sure you have some extra's with you, background bokeh can be a bit busy unless you are careful.   My pro's would be, lens reports correctly in exif, good to have image stabilisation, handholding down to 1/4 easily achievable, and the weight is very manageable, lens seems sharp with nice contrast and colour pop.

This blue tit - not too bad through the window on a grey wet day.  F/4 ISO 400 1/200

Hope to get out and about with the lens and find some more interesting stuff to share.

This for me curious and I did a quick size check on the camera size web site https://camerasize.com/compact/#639.495,639.816,ha,t to compare this lens with the Leice 90-280, of which I have a used sample.  There is definitely a size advantage to the Panasonic and it probably outweighs the slight extra reach of the Leica option.  Interestingly I couldn't do a CL body with these lenses on the site.

The CL together with the Leica 90/280 gives excellent results and at maximum  focal length of a character, which is not to achieve with the SL because of the crop. But it is a heavy and bulky lens which means there is a lens with the camera attached and not a camera with the lens. If a light lens with a long focal length is desired, we will have  to wait for a non full frame  L lens.  And it is uncertain, if such one would come. For sure not from Leica an not from Panasonic.  Alternatives to a limited extent are the Leica Leica V-Lux 5 and the very similiar Pana  and if Leica is not the must, the Sonys RX  10 III (which I owned one some time ago) or the RX 10 IV. IQ of the two Sonys is the same, even the lens 24 - 600 mm equ. FF, the AF from the RX 10 IV is said to be considerably quicker, the price much higher.  I was very satisfied with the RX 10 III, which is rain sealed, as long as there was light enough or a tripod with me. More than ISO 800 is not very advisable.

Vikas,  90-280 is nearing twice the weight, that's the main issue for me (that together with the cost of course which is x3).

Orchid - as a drinking swan in 2 formats. CL and L Macro 60 mm.  The lens is very very good for table tops.

Even the Panasonic lens looks big! The 90-280 is a monster. I couldn't ever contemplate putting it on my CL, it just defeats the whole purpose of having a smaller, cropped sensor camera.

I like the first (is that an apricot tree or something else?) but I love the second with the deep rich red.

Completely agree Dippy, still not totally sure about the Panasonic either.  Anyhow, tree is a Greengage, and I love your family photo's.
