Which 300 f2.8, f4 or f4.5? I tried an old 300 f4.5 and the helical was just too tight, probably needed a relube. The f2.8s are huge, haven't even considered one with my Nikon. I use the 400 f5.6 Telyt with my CL using a Leica table top tripod as a chest pod so I can hold it at 1/400, it has a Televit, so my left hand holds the pistol grip, right focuses with a nice round dial, and takes the picture, yes slow.

It is f/4.5. But I find it too heavy and unbalanced on CL to focus handheld. I have, though, no problem at all to connect the lens to the camera via a Novoflex adapter that I am also using for my other Nikkor lenses on CL or T.

I guess if I had nice subjects to shoot, I would take a tripod and the focusing would be without much problem.

Agree on the 18-56mm, it's indispensable for me.  If I need faster, that's what the primes are for.

As for birds . . . well, Louis, your bird shots are a heck of a lot better than my street shots! 😉

CL/18-56mm . . .

That’s a very nice shot.  I’m curious how it was captured.  It looks a little too high for a double decker bus and I don’t think there is a building in that position 🙂

I was wondering too and am guessing it could be a pedestrian bridge crosswalk..

Ah yes, I thought a remembered a pedestrian bridge there (Orchard Boulevard in Singapore) and indeed Google confirms it!

Good detective work.  I've been BUSTED!!! 😳  That's exactly the place.  One more reason for not doing street shots around here:  every inch of this country has been photographed to death and is so easily recognizable.

Man, I was going to sell my 18 2.8, but after today I'm at a loss.  Sure, it's not quite as good as my Q2, but I can't as easily snap photos with a 20 month old and herding dog in tow.  And I don't own a coat that makes my q2 pocketable.  Decisions . . .

A group of raucously funny and highly intelligent Hill Mynas, once totally depleted here by the pet trade, now making a comeback . . .

All with CL/350mm f/4.8 Telyt-R . . .  Lens seems to pair extremely well with the CL.  It's 1.8kg and without internal focus and with a rather long-ish focus throw.  But it balances well on the integrated tripod collar and is very carryable when properly strapped/harnessed, even for an old fart like me.  It's a very bright lens, enough so to shoot under canopy at a reasonable ISO.  And it's a Mandler lens from a time period when Leica was using glass that renders in a singularly beautiful way.

Does it cost less to keep both? I find that both the CL and Q2 get used differently so can justify (whisper…) both of them.

Keeping both keeps me from doing something stupid like buying an M. So yes!

Very difficult to use an M with a dog and a kid. :)  I was thinking a lot about the 18mm, I bought it and now I dont regret it. Makes the whole kit small and the quality is good enough.
