Certainly didn't stand still long enough to ask! 😁 Yes, Daniel, they are swifts. Wonderful birds. Longer, sickle shaped wings and slightly shorter forked tails than swallows. If you could get one to come close enough you would see that they are dark brown with a creamy white "bib" under their beaks. They only rarely land, mostly to gather mud for their nests and have very short legs, good only for perching not walking; everything else - eating, sleeping, mating is done in the air. They are a delightful and evocative feature of the hot, summer skies over Italian and any European city, screaming as they zoom around eating flies. I love them. Thanks for the lovely picture; you've captured that wonderful time of day and I can almost feel the heat still radiating off the hot stones of the streets.
