wilfredo Posted August 1, 2022 Share #1 Â Posted August 1, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm planning a move to Portugal from the U.S. and I currently use the Epson 3880 Printer for my photographic printing needs. Â I'm wondering if a replacement plug for the E.U. is available? Cheers, Wilfredo+
Advertisement Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Epson Printer Use in Europe. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted August 1, 2022 Share #2 Â Posted August 1, 2022 You should have no problems getting an adapter. Â
AndreasG Posted August 1, 2022 Share #3 Â Posted August 1, 2022 Portugal uses the type F and the older type C wall outlets, certainly you can connect your printer via an easy to get adapter to these, however, voltage is 230V, which will kill your 110V printer. You need a step down transformer therefore, changing the voltage from 230 down to 110V.
Anbaric Posted August 1, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted August 1, 2022 From the manual, it seems this isn't a dual voltage printer as separate models are listed on p212: https://download.epson-europe.com/pub/download/3250/epson325024eu.pdf So you'd need a transformer as noted above.
wilfredo Posted August 3, 2022 Author Share #5 Â Posted August 3, 2022 Thanks for the responses. Â I wonder how well it would work with a transformer? Â Any particular brand or model in mind? Â Thanks, Wilfredo+
jaapv Posted August 6, 2022 Share #6  Posted August 6, 2022 Any generic one will work. Take care however that the voltage in Europe has increased from 220 to 230/240 V. some time ago. So you need to buy a fairly recent type as it will otherwise produce 120 V which might wear your printer out sooner.
AndreasG Posted August 6, 2022 Share #7 Â Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) This Epson 3880 printer has a power consumption of 25W according to its data sheet, so a small step down converter will suffice, e.g. https://www.ebay.de/itm/304091194103?hash=item46cd3f62f7:g:negAAOSwv11hbupP You just have to find one with a plug for Portugal, should be not too difficult. Stuart Richardson Posted August 6, 2022 Share #8  Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) I don't think you will need anything too complicated. I moved to Iceland with a 3800 back in the day and I believe I just changed the power cord. But it has been awhile, so just double check. But I am pretty sure you will not need a power transformer. In the specs it lists the following: Input voltage range 90-264V. This suggests that you only need to change your plug. If it says the same on the back of your printer, then you are good. You can also just take a picture of the power label on the back of your printer, and that will tell us the story, as it is legally required to show that info. Just because there are different versions for different countries, does not mean that one from another country will not work. Manufacturers sell them in different boxes with different plugs etc, but most manufacturers sell computer equipment with worldwide voltage capabilities, so they do not need to manufacture different models for each country. Anbaric Posted August 6, 2022 Share #9  Posted August 6, 2022 Certainly check the back of the printer, but this may be something where the 3880 differs from the 3800. The equivalent page in the 3880 manual splits the electrical specs between the models: Welcome, dear visitor! Stuart Richardson Posted August 6, 2022 Share #10 Â Posted August 6, 2022 Mine was also from a 3880 manual, so best to check. I used this manual. https://files.support.epson.com/pdf/pro3880/pro3880ug.pdf
Anbaric Posted August 8, 2022 Share #11 Â Posted August 8, 2022 Seeing that, I hope there is only one model! It would be pretty irresponsible of Epson to release a version of the manual that implies it's multi-voltage if single voltage models exist, even with the caveat that you should check the label.
