I may be incorrect, but I am thinking the correction is baked into the jpeg in camera, then you import it to Lightroom, and tell Lightroom to correct it again, Lightroom’s says, sure thing boss and again applies a lens correction to the jpg, versus the dng where Lightroom says, sorry I see in the metadata of the dng that it’s already been applied. I bet if you convert the dng to a jpg, then re-import that jpg, I bet you can apply the lens correction again

If you look at the very bottom of the lens correction tab, it says "Internal lens profile already applied". If you click on the "i" for info, it tells you that distortion correction was applied to the file (but not vignetting correction). That's for DNG. The OOC JPEG has already lens correction applied. Any additional lens correction will lead to problems.

In theory, I understand that the built-in lens correction is applied to DNG files. But why do JPEG files shot at the same time appear more and better corrected? This made me wonder if the lens correction is applied to DNG files at all.

Without lens correction Q2 files are almost useless. You will instantly notice if the lens correction is not applied.

I do not see any difference with Q2M JPGs. Selecting "Enable Profile Correction" reports "Lens Profile:None" and "Unable to locate a matching profile automatically" (Lightroom Classic v11.4). What kind of lens profile have you selected to see the change in the JPG?

There is no profile that can be selected. The integrated profile is used for both DNF and JPEG files.

Nevertheless, when I shoot DNG and JPEG parallel with my Q2M and compare the two images in LRC, the difference in correction is significant: the JPEG image looks stronger and perhaps better corrected than the simultaneously shot DNG image. And this is exactly what irritates me.

There is no integrated profile for JPGs, all modifications have been applied when creating the JPG of n the camera. The DNG contains a built-in profile that is applied/interpreted by LrC. Yes, there is a slight difference, did not notice it before. I do not know where that difference comes from.

I'd say it is how LR implements the numbers provided in the DNG. Certainly not 1:1 compared to in-camera.

The distortion correction applied is different for both JPEG and DNG. It also appears that none of the RAW processing apps have a profile specific to the 28mm SUMMILUX f1.7 28 ASPH. Neither Adobe or others list this lens as being supported.

The JPEG is corrected in camera with an embedded tag "SUMMILUX 1:1.7/28 ASPH."

The DNG is tagged "Lens SUMMILUX 1:1.7/28 ASPH." but with a profile tagged "LensProfile Leica SUMMICRON-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH."

I'm assuming the JPEG is correctly processed and what we need for correct DNG processing is a lens profile for the 28mm SUMMILUX f1.7 28 ASPH. Leica could supply the profile used for in-camera distortion correction, either to users or RAW processing software developers.

Leica already includes a built-in profile in Q2’s DNG files. It is used by post processing software to apply correction. Adobe software cannot replace built-in profile with a custom profile. It may be that DxO software has their own Q2 profile that they use instead.

That is impossible if you look at uncorrected DNGs.
How did you come to that conclusion?

It's the software, Lightroom, Capture One, DxO PureRAW that link to "Leica SUMMICRON-M 28 mm f2 ASPH."

This is still a problem which should be solved.

What do you mean by "link to"?

With Adobe, the built-in profile is applied. If you select Enable Profile Correction then the "Make" field shows "Built-in". If you change that to anything else, then you overlay another profile, which can produce unintended results.

DxO loads Q2 + Q2 Lens module.

Apologies, just digging this up again: I used Topaz Photo AI to edit a RAW file from my Q2 and it did a great job de-noising the image.

However, the new DNG that is saved back into Lightroom Classic does not have the lens corrections that were applied to the original file automatically. As written above, it says "Built in Lens Profile applied" under Lens Corrections in Lightroom but when I click on it it does not let me see what corrections were actually applied.

Is there a way to simply copy these settings over to the modified DNG after it is saved from Topaz?
