dkCambridgeshire Posted July 5, 2022 Author Share #21 Posted July 5, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I was first notified about the 'gesture of goodwill 45% discount upgrade to CL offer' ... suggested because my Leica X1 could no longer be repaired, the upgrades offered were: 1) CL body only & 2) CL / TL 23mm combo. I then enquired if the offer could include a CL / TL18mm combination. It was this enquiry which was referred to Wetzlar for approval and was subsequently approved; it was not part of the original offer which to the best of my knowledge did not require Wetzlar approval ... and was likely already Wetzlar instigated/approved. dunk

dkCambridgeshire Posted August 4, 2022 Author Share #25 Posted August 4, 2022 (edited) Just advised by Leica Duke Street the new CL / TL 18mm combo is en route for delivery tomorrow ... 4 weeks and 4 days since receiving and accepting the actual offer and 5 weeks and 2 days since Duke Street first advised about the discount available for faulty X series upgrades. I was a little hesitant and waited to hear if the offer applied to a CL / 18mm combo as distinct from CL / TL 23mm. The CL / TL 18mm is an excellent deal at £1801 in PX for the now 12 years young Leica X1 ... and I keep the X1's batteries, charger, lens cap, user manual and 'chest of drawers' ... latter will likely be offered FOC to friends who bought a s/h X1 as b/o with charger. NigelG Posted August 4, 2022 Share #26 Posted August 4, 2022 £1800 is a great price - I’m swithering on new CL/18 combo’s at c£1900 as they’re only in silver. The 18 will go great on my silver TL2, but I’m not sure about a silver CL..?

The 18 will go great on my silver TL2, but I’m not sure about a silver CL..? I wasn't at at all sure about a silver CL either, but bought a new one earlier this year, simply because of a great price, it's really grown on me. I thought the silver might show marks more easily but actually it feels like it will probably wear better than the black, and I did have 18 and 35 TL in silver anyway. Having decided to shrink my L mount commitment to one CL body, it was the black I sold. It maybe looks a little less discrete🤔 if that bothers you at all. dkCambridgeshire Posted August 5, 2022 Author Share #28 Posted August 5, 2022 CL and 18mm delivered this morning and all fine ... happy with 18mm imaging ... Wondering if the 18mm critics work with DNG image files? I only use DNG and thus optimise CL's images
akiralx Posted September 1, 2022 Share #29 Posted September 1, 2022 Leica Australia did something similar when they couldn't repair my damaged 55-135mm TL lens - they offered me a new one for A$970, which was around a 65% discount.
AHPZuazua Posted October 24, 2022 Share #30 Posted October 24, 2022 Is the CL discontinued
Boojay Posted October 24, 2022 Share #31 Posted October 24, 2022 (edited) Leicas announcement that no CL2 is planned, no further aps-c development, and that support will be offered for the CL for a total of 6 years, then discontinued it is. The official announcement Mid May. Leica Camera AG has officially announced that it has discontinued the line of CL and TL cameras. "In recent years, the overall photography market has seen a decline in sales of compact and system cameras with smaller sensors," said the official Leica statement. "In comparison, the segment of cameras with full-frame sensors is developing particularly positively and shows continuing market growth. Many of us continue to be happy users... unhappy at the statement, and I certainly consider Leica missed a trick, given just how good the CL is. All that to me is missing is one or two smaller zoom or prime lenses with the addition of image stabilisation, many example from other manufacturers..Fuji, Canon etc. Edited October 24, 2022 by Boojay
Stuart Thompson Posted June 14, 2023 Share #32 Posted June 14, 2023 Hello dkCambridgeshire, I hope you are well and safe! Your post was very informative indeed as I also own a Leica X Vario that Leica has not been able to repair. Just to be clear you were asked to return just the Leica X camera (no accessories) and were offered a brand new Leica CL Starter Bundle Digital Camera with 18mm Lens (19330) for GBP1800/-? Look forward to your response. Thanks!

Look forward to your response. Thanks! Correct but the 18mm option was not offered as part of the original upgrade which had offered other TL lenses but at a higher price. I negotiated the 18mm option which Leica agreed in principle but I had to wait until one was available in Germany – thus took several weeks before the PX offer / deal was completed. Very unlikely that the same / similar deal is still available because the CL is now well and truly discontinued. Leica Camera AG (but in effect Leica UK via their Leica Duke Street store) offered the upgrade as a 'goodwill gesture' because they no longer have facilities for any Leica X series servicing. However, former Leica Duke Street service / repair technician, David Slater subsequently commenced his 'independent' Leica camera servicing, has stocks of parts enabling same, and can service / repair all Leica X series. "For Leica repairs in the UK please consider approaching former Leica UK technician David Slater who can service most Leica compact cameras .... including Leica Q, X series and the M9 Camera Focus (Camera Repairs) 121 Layhams Road West Wickham, Kent BR4 9HE United Kingdom david.slater2@icloud.com 07789 546584 " Edited June 14, 2023 by dkCambridgeshire
Stuart Thompson Posted June 14, 2023 Share #34 Posted June 14, 2023 Thank you for the prompt reply. What does PX refer to? Also would you know what was the deepest discount offered in general on the CL bundle after it was officially discontinued? Would be nice if other people can also exchange notes on this.
