Not my M3 sadly. Wrong serial number but that’s the look I’m hoping for.

Alexander now seems to be responding to new customers comments on his insta adverts.

Apparently the camera in the pictures is mine. The top plate got switched with another that Camera Obscura owned by mistake. They’ve offered to switch them back. I’ve opted for ‘immediate’ return. They say it will be posted tomorrow. I’ll post when and if it and the lens come back.

Not sure how they'd own a top plate by mistake - I hope it doesn't in fact belong to another customer who'd rather like it back! I think I would have held out for the major components the camera had when I sent it to them, even with this lot's record of delays, and I'd wonder about what else might have been swapped out internally...

If he (not 'they') can switch customers top plates around what else is going on that you can't see? Given provenance is key to old Leica's it's a fundamental responsibility for a repairer to keep all the parts together. Let's hope he isn't scavenging parts out of one to repair another, but that's unlikely, reports of him repairing anything are thin on the ground.

The camera and lens have arrived! Both look and feel fantastic. Just need to run some film through it now. True to form though, I never received any tracking information.

That’s great.

Hope it came back with a top plate fitted, preferably  the original one.

Good to know you and your camera have finally been reunited.

Gosh. I don’t think I could cope with the wrong parts being fitted to the camera. It must have reduced the value quite a bit too?

Glad the film test was okay. That’s the most important thing I suppose.

Film test was fine. It didn’t come back with the original top plate. I was offered it but I didn’t want to wait even longer.

WTF???!!!

Does he run a scrapyard as well?

He shouldn't even have made it an option, even I can take a top plate off and put it back on again in twenty minutes, so it's a forty minute job that he messed up in the first place. I'm sorry but it's yet another example of his appalling attitude to his unfortunate customers.

I have just found and joined this site  - after googling if Camera Obscura Repairs is a scam? I found their website and they confirmed they could replace the shutter curtain on my M7  -so I sent it off recorded delivery and insured and as far as I can tell its still out for delivery.  I have emailed CO trying to find out where it is and have had no response.  I cant believe there are 9 pages of comments on this site, which seem to say that he does a good job, but never communicates.  Is this the case ?

Thanks

Camera Obscura (CO) Repirs - arena they the subject of this thread?

Yes, but you will not find them referred to as 'CO' in the thread.

If it has not been delivered, how would 'CO' know where it is?

Sorry I will refer to them as Camera Obscura Repairs - there is a lot of comment that they are a scam and yet there also seems comment that they are genuine but dont communicate.  Having posted my M7 to them and when they dont communicate it does not sound good.  I was looking on the forum to see if anyone had recent experience of them?

I’m afraid that this thread does tell a sorry tale. Hopefully, they are learning the lesson that communication with customers is fundamental, but it seems from your experience that they have a long way to go.

If you haven’t done so already, I recommend that you read the thread from the beginning.

It seems that most people do get their repaired kit back, but it will take a long time.

Good luck!
