NightPix Posted May 6, 2022 Share #1  Posted May 6, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m trying to choose between good used copies of two versions of the Summicron 35 f/2 - one designated 11879 and the other 11674. The latter appears to be the latest version. And of course it’s ~$1000 more expensive. My question to the group is - what are the differences between these two versions of the classic 35 cron? If the 11674 version is better, is the difference worth $1000?  Thanks for your help!
Advertisement Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Hi NightPix, Take a look here Differences between 11879 and 11674 versions of Summicron 35/f2 ASPH lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted May 6, 2022 Share #2  Posted May 6, 2022 11879 is black former version with less aperture blades. 11674 is last version in silver, screw-on hood . I don't know which one is "better buy", you are the only one to decide. Welcome, dear visitor! I also discovered there’s one more blade in the aperture on the 11674, and the hood design is improved. Not sure how much difference that will make. Decisions, decisions, decisions…. Printmaker Posted May 7, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted May 7, 2022 I just bought the latest version and really like this lens. I've used version II and IV in the past and liked the size and performance but the ASPH II is sharper and has better micro contrast. I didn't like the hood of the ASPH I. And the size of the ASPH II is considerably larger than my earlier 35 Summicrons. All in all, I'm happy with the new lens. Â
lct Posted May 7, 2022 Share #5 Â Posted May 7, 2022 Same optics, smaller size, i like the plastic hood but Leica used to make superb metal hoods too, all reasons to prefer the "old" version for me but i have no experience with the "new" one i must say.
