Advertisement Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Hi Sandokan, Take a look here Dining with Kings. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted August 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 15, 2006 Ravi, Constructive criticism I hope. Whist the light/mood and setting are interesting, I'm not sure what I'm meant to be looking at here - the subjects are't engaging/interesting (to me) and the composition is awkward. What is it that appeals to you about the photograph? Regards
albertwang Posted August 15, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 15, 2006 Picture needs more contrast. I don't feel the weighty mood of the scene at all. Unless you're doing a tintype?
Sandokan Posted August 15, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted August 15, 2006 I guess you are right about lack of focus - I did try to capture the mural on the wall behind, but the place is badly lit and very dark. The two gentlemen were highlighed, but I guess they compete for attention against the two lamps throwing light on the wall. Thanks
jmr Posted August 15, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 15, 2006 Ravi, nice idea here, but the impact, to me at least, is reduced by the space in the frame to the left and right of the two men. I'd have been tempted to crop it to a tight vertical composition and punch up the contrast a bit in Photoshop. I guess it depends, as James asked, on your intent with the shot. Sandokan Posted August 15, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted August 15, 2006 Hi John and Albert, I have put in PS and tweaked contrast and I think it looks better. On the cropping - tell me what you think. I tried cropping to just these two men, but that did not interest me...
jmr Posted August 15, 2006 Share #7 Posted August 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ravi, looks better to me. I would go even narrower, just either side of the men, while keeping the full height. I think that would emphasise them being looked down on by the Kings. Guest chriisi Posted August 15, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 15, 2006 my version: I think the background is quite important for the picture, because the paintings look interesting, and are responsible for the mood..
Sandokan Posted August 15, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted August 15, 2006 John - thanks, I will try to narrow down even further. Chris - how did you get rid of the "noise" - I think your photo looks sharper and mine had speckle.... ?
Guest chriisi Posted August 15, 2006 Share #10 Posted August 15, 2006 I just played with the Gradiation.. in Photoshop.. But i did nothing with the sharpness..
