MichaelPremo Posted April 20, 2022 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone knows the correct filter size for a Leica 35mm Elmarit-R lens V2. According to the Leica Wiki it's a Series 7, based on the serial number (#2787xxx see below) and the two metal prongs on the outer lens rim. But the Series 7 filter retaining ring doesn't fit (second picture). It's slightly too big. A series 6 retaining ring also doesn't fit (first pic). It's too small. The outer circumference of the lens seems to be about exactly the same as a Series 7 filter. So, it can't "drop in." And Series 6 are way too small. What am I missing? Are filter's held by a hood? I think that's the case with the series 6 version of 50mm Summicron. But it still accepts a retaining ring, I think. ... If so what size are the filters? Welcome, dear visitor! a.noctilux Posted April 20, 2022 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2022 Welcome here Michael, You need 12509 hood to retain Serie VII filter with your Elmarit-R 35mm. https://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/12509 Welcome, dear visitor! MichaelPremo Posted April 21, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted April 21, 2022 (edited) Thank you. The accessory guide at that link also explains the dial on the 12509 hood is for adjusting a circular polarizer. I was wondering what that dial is for. Thank you. This lens does have threads. Do you know what size threaded filters this lens accepts? Edited April 21, 2022 by MichaelPremo
a.noctilux Posted April 21, 2022 Share #4 Posted April 21, 2022 I don't have this lens. I bet ( after searching in my documents) that the thread size could be 48mmx0.75mm to be verified with your lens. As side note, I have the Elmarit-R 2.8/28mm which uses the same hood 12509, and as E48 filters are not easy to find, I screwed on the 28mm lens adapter E48 to E49 to use more available E49 filters that I have. Second side note, I can use some E49 filters as drop-in retained by the hood 12509.
Ornello Posted April 21, 2022 Share #5 Posted April 21, 2022 E48 or Series 7 held in by hood.
davidmknoble Posted April 24, 2022 Share #6 Posted April 24, 2022 I used B+W 48mm filter I bought in 2021 for the Leica R elmarit 28mm (version 1). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/11986-REG/B_W_66023186_48mm_UV_Haze_010.html
