Devaprem Posted April 15, 2022 Share #1  Posted April 15, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi. I’ve recently bought the brand new 11-23mm lens for my CL, along with a (secondhand) Leica UV filter. The lens itself is great. I’ve never had a lens capable of such a wide angle and I can see wonderful opportunities for using it. There’s one thing, though. When I put the UV filter on and shoot at 11 mm, the metal edge of the filter rim is visible in the upper left and, to a lesser extent, the lower left of a horizontal frame. If I zoom to 12mm it is no longer visible. Strangely, the filter rim is not visible in upper and lower right hand corners. The lens hood was not on the lens. The filter itself shows no marks or damage, leading me to wonder if there is actually something out of alignment within the lens for the rim visibility to be there on one side but not the other. Also, having a filter rim visible at the lens's widest setting (regardless of whether it visible on one side or both) is surprising to me, thinking that Leica would have avoided this when designing the lens. I've attached a test showing showing the problem The Leica dealer I bought this from is being very helpful and we'll be talking again after the Easter holiday. However, I would be very interested to know of any other people have had a similar experience with this lens with a filter on it. I'd also be grateful for any thoughts people might have about this problem Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Hi Devaprem, Take a look here Leica 11-23 mm zoom - filter edge visible at 11 mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Le Chef Posted April 16, 2022 Share #2  Posted April 16, 2022 Do you have the filter screwed in all the way? I would check to see that the filter threads are clean. Is lens hood mounted correctly? Align the white dots and twist until you feel a click. It can be quite stiff, but add a dab of oil to the indent on the lens hood to help it click. Are you using image software like LightRoom that corrects for lens aberrations for this particular lens? If none of these work then the lens may need to go back to Leica to be adjusted. TMorita Posted April 16, 2022 Share #3 Â Posted April 16, 2022 Use a thinner filter, like a B+W XS pro.

Devaprem Posted April 19, 2022 Author Share #7  Posted April 19, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) First, my apologies for not replying to your answers sooner. I had thought I’d get email alerts when someone had done so. Le Chef - the lens hood wasn’t on the lens but thanks for you tip about oil to help fitting it. The filer was screwed in all the way and the jpg image I posted was not post-processed. The DNG shows similar effects (but slightly less) TMorita, NigelG, Ba Erv & nicci78 - thanks for your comments too. I will definitely consider the XSPro after those of you who use it have recommended it Did those of you who recommend it have the same problem as me with the filter appearing at the edges and, if so, did it appear in all four corners or just two like here? tommonego@gmail.com Posted April 19, 2022 Share #8  Posted April 19, 2022 My solution is not to use a filter, my early photography days filters degraded the image, B+W filters are fine now. I rely on lens shades and lens caps, I have it down so caps don't bother me.
JayBird Posted April 23, 2022 Share #9 Â Posted April 23, 2022 I have a B+W UV or circular polarizer filter on my 11-23 at all times. I have never had an issue. I believe both of my filters have the thin mount just to prevent what you are describing.
