Pete. Hi Pete. Apologies for the delayed reply. Non magnetic. The filters are however threaded so you can attach a few . I’ve not found any magnetic filters for the 39mm .
astrogirl514 Posted August 6, 2023 Share #23 Â Posted August 6, 2023 One of the earlier comments in this thread mentioned 60mm in a list of sizes that Urth filters are offered in but I don't see 60mm as an option on their website. Does anyone know if Urth no longer sells that size? Currently trying to find non-Leica brand filters for the R-mount Vario-Elmar 35-70mm f/4 lens and not having much look. I've read a bunch of forum threads about how the E60 thread size making buying filters for that lens a pain and that B+W and Heliopan 60mm filters don't seem to fit as nicely as Leica ones. Was wondering what filter sizes anyone whose used Urth filters with their Leica camera use specifically and how the fit was. The Urth magnetic filters seem like they'd be great to shoot with
jaapv Posted August 6, 2023 Share #24 Â Posted August 6, 2023 Personally I have never heard of Urth filters before this thread. The highest quality filters are in general B+W and Heliopan. Hoya are quite good as well. Leica filters can be qualified as good enough. They are just Leica-branded, not Leica-made.

astrogirl514 Posted August 7, 2023 Share #26 Â Posted August 7, 2023 Pete, thanks for the info, a step-up ring and front lens cap is the set-up I was thinking of trying out in order to use the Gobe magnetic filters. Good to know they actually don't make a 60mm like I thought. Is your front lens cap in the 62mm size then? And can you recommend anywhere to get a good 60-62mm step up ring? It seems to be an uncommon size, I can only find some cheap ones from HK stores on eBay.

I am now looking for an optically suitable compact filter system for my M11 and considering Kase / Freewell and K&F filter systems, has anyone out there tried any of these on M mount lenses?  Many thanks! It was some time ago but I think that the step-up ring was made by Hood. I probably got it through ebay and it wasn't expensive (at the time) but I think I had to search a bit to find it on its own without having to purchase a full set of step-up rings that would have been a lot more expensive and all but one would never be used. I expect you already know but Gobe trades under the name "Urth" now and are available through Amazon. Pete.
J S H Posted August 12, 2023 Share #29  Posted August 12, 2023 Another approach is a magnetic 100 x 100 filter system for ND and also Graduated ND 100 x 150 filters as well. I do quite a bit of professional work that requires ND filters and I got tired of carrying a selection of round filters for every single lens I needed to work with on any given day. I bought an H&Y magnetic 100mm kit and with the correct step rings for the smaller lenses, it works on everything from tiny M lenses to the Laowa 9mm ultra wide. H&Y also makes a selection of round magnetic filters, but these are all 95mm in diameter, so really not that much of a size difference vs the 100 x 100 filter system and it's really nice to be able to use the graduated ND's when needed. Generally, the quality of the H&Y ND filters are great. Not quite up to the level of a Kolari Vision ND or Breakthrough ND (which I would consider the top two options from an IQ standpoint), but not too far behind.

The Urth magnetic filters seem like they'd be great to shoot with B+W makes 60mm filters and I have one of their polarizers and several ND filters. These filters all work great on that lens and allow the full range of focal lengths and will also work with the hood. Also, Heliopan makes step up rings in the 60mm size. They can be somewhat hard to find, but you will find them if you are persistent (look on ebay or order directly if needed). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/22020-REG/Heliopan_700161_60_67mm_Step_up_Ring_161.html I occasionally use a 60-67 step up ring with that lens, which will not work with the hood or past about 50mm (it would be the same for any step up ring, as there is no extra room for the lens to retract at focal lengths longer than 50mm), but is otherwise a good option. Good luck! Â
