My MP has been sitting for about a week, and when I picked it up last and rewinded my film, I noticed that the rewind knob was pulling out more than usual, and wasn't completely going back in. Does anyone know what could've caused this and how I could maybe fix it myself?

It needs screwing back in before it falls out completely. You'll need the correct two pin wrench or if you are handy you can make your own.

I already took it out and tried to put it back in manually. Look at the second picture too, it's not just the small plate piece at the top that is misplaced.

I second Steve ...the part with two red dots to be screwed back.

The two red dots are there to be screwed/unscrewed with special tool.

You need the special tool or adapted "plier" to screw in at same time holding the corresponding part inside the camera.

Or have it done in five minutes in equipped repair shop (rare and less common than before, I know).

Not exactly sure what I'm doing here looking for this type of advice on the forum :) Yes, of course I saw that on Youtube too. I contacted a repairmen and they've recommended not to mess around with it as the problem could very well be deeper on the inside. FWIW I've opened up the top part myself and it can't be screwed on deeper than it already is.

advices are correct, you may loose the screw. First picture shows how rewind button in M2 looks like, I think MP is similar

There is small fork 42-253-01.495, right photo shows it in nature. It must be properly positioned on the axis and then the screw manualy screwed on. You might need special tool as mentioned but  you may do it as well without.

on the left drawing you may see fork that couples with the spool in film cartridge. You must prevent it from rotating, for example inserting a piece of wood or similar- Then pull the button fully up (that the screw must be partially in) and rotate button clockwise in the same time hold wood so that fork does not rotate. This is good enough method, whenever you`will have time you may visit repair shop, they will do it for ever 🙂

I think with Jerzy's illustration maybe when the cap unscrewed the claw type washer (spring washer?) got out of alignment with the key on the shaft and this has stopped the cap being screwed back down again fully.
