Which Leica entity installed a black dot on your M10?  Since the black dot controversy with the black M8.2, this has been strictly forbidden by Leica, available only by third party or DIY.

Jeff

Must have been a third party I honestly don't know I asked for it to be done at the shop where I bought the camera new.

To be clear, the "official website" stands for the brand owner.
While the "unofficial forum" stands for users, either positive or negative comments should be welcomed.
There'll be nothing in jeopardize while the product makes perfect.
And it would never jeopardize your business if you're neutral enough.

Begin rant. I’ve gotta say that I can’t remember the launch of a product that has been so disparaged and trolled by a brand’s intended customer base as the M11 (particularly in this forum). From complaining what the camera is not (a DSLR), does not include (IBIS, a built in EVF), does not do well (speedy operation), and costs (it’s a lot of $$$, but in the US at least it’s the same price as its predecessor), to self-flagellation over what it says about purchasers (rich snobs), why some people won’t buy one, and why others have sold theirs.   So many of these comments seem to be coming from non-M users or folks who haven’t actually even held an M11. I look forward to using my copy (on order), but I made a thoughtful choice in choosing to do so based on how I will use the camera (I happen to like manual rangefinders). Why is it that so many have decided to spend so much time fretting publicly about their decision and bitching about the product?  Buy one or don’t, but please spare us the angst. It’s just a tool, albeit an expensive one.  Rant over.

Sometimes you just have to rant, then exhale.

I'm curious if it possible to have a thread that's open only to M11 owners as a place to share useful tips.

Boy, oh boy.  If you want to start a fight release a new model Leica.  Looking back over their entrance into digital it has been disastrous.  Wonky IR problems in the M8, and not so much in the M8.2.  Then the famous sensor corrosion in the M9.  Once fixed, what a PR disaster that was, it is a camera with good color.  It has its problems but WTF, it's a Leica.  Then the M240 with, horror of horrors, no CCD but CMOS instead.  Good engineering reasons for this, color maybe not as good and higher ISO's and quieter shutter.  Then the M10 with its complainers and now the M11.

I can only speak for myself but my getting a really expensive chisel will not make me a better sculptor.  It's just not going to happen.  So how else could I rationalize spending the price of a pretty good used car on something that goes "click"?  I just read it has the M9 colors back.  Oh, frabjous joy.  The M11 with all its bells and whistles, wide ISO range and more is still not enough. Until now.  Review of color magic here:  https://www.thephoblographer.com/2022/03/24/the-best-rangefinder-cameras-youll-love-and-rangefinder-style/

Can this magic be true?  If it is much of the carping about the M11 would seem just that.

Thanks for sharing this link. My favorite line is the last sentence.

Yeah, but.  The last sentence goes on about how Leica photography is not automatic.  Just before that it complains about other cameras with auto white balance and auto exposure in the more automatic cameras.  Like Leica which has both.  And while you may do each photo by setting white balance and exposure manually, many of us just set the speed wheel to "A" and let fly.  Having to focus removes the camera from the stigma of the "point and shoot" list.  I am sure many of us use the auto features on our Leicas.   I sure do.  I like computers.  I am using one right now.   ;o)

What about a "Bashing M11users" thread? Could begin by a definition. An M11 user is a guy (girl?) who feels bashed each time a non M11 user dares to criticize his/her new tool/toy. Poor little thing. Rather fair no? :D.

Thing is, I don’t give a rat’s behind about what a condescending jacka** who doesn’t use or hasn’t used an M11 thinks about the M11 or me. It’s a waste of my time. I’d suggest that the troll engage in a more productive endeavor. Like going back to photographing their pet cat.

Well...  I can't speak for everyone else, but I am mad as hell that Leica had the arrogance to create and sell a camera like the M11.  It is simply an abomination and an outrage against all that is good, proper, decent and holy. 🙄

I'd say an M11 user who gets offended when someone criticizes the M11 is overly sensitive.  Non-owners have very right to be critical because they may be contemplating the M11 as a purchase.  And weighing that against what they now have, Leica or not, and against their skill set.  It's just the same as criticizing a new auto model.  Or, as my uncle used to say, "We can't all love the same woman."  I have a few of these machines and I really do not care what you, the next person or anyone else thinks about it.  I bought them for myself, not anyone else.  They need only please me.  And they do.  There are just too many whiners around.  It is an imperfect world abounding with people.

From the book of Wetzlar, chapter 1, verse 11:

Quote

Bash not thy brethren or sisteren over their choice of M camera, lest ye incur the wrath of Henri Cartier-Bresson and the saints of Leica.  Woe unto he who basheth the disciples of the M camera, for it would be better that have the bollocks of a donkey attached to their foreheads all the days of their life, world without end.
