Alwyn Posted June 27, 2022 Author Share #21 Posted June 27, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Update: I have been using the Geotag Photos 2 app for a month now and I am very happy indeed! I’ve used it on several trips and had it running on my phone all day whilst shooting with my Q2 Monochrom and also my Sony RX100V which has no GPS capabilities at all. I didn’t notice any great battery drainage on my phone even though I record my location every 5 seconds. Marrying the app data with the images is a very simple procedure in Lightroom Classic and out of the hundreds of images that I’ve shot, only two have been missed but that’s down to me as I forgot to tell the app to start recording my location. The locations recorded by my phone are far more accurate than the current offering by the Fotos app when I can get it to work and I have stopped using the Fotos app for geotagging completely. I also like the ability to view the route I’ve taken on a map in the app and the stats on how long the route was, how long it was recorded, and the number of points recorded and where they are on the map. Nerdy I know but it’s fun. €11.99 well spent and problem solved. Welcome, dear visitor! Wilson Hi Wilson, Have you tried this app, and if so, was is successful? I'm working with C1P too and would like to geotag my Q2 shots.

Still recovering from Covid, which I had fairly badly and it has left me quite fatigued and lethargic, still having good days and bad days. I have hardly taken any photos at all during the two months I have been in France, other than during my week on a yacht off Corfu and as I was using the Visoflex 2 on my M10-R - no GPS. However, I can work out from the date of the image and the date/time marked chart trace that the skipper of the yacht kindly included with the video, he sent me of the week, taken with various Go-Pro, DJI Osmo cameras and with a big quadcopter, showing me where each photo was taken. I have not taken a single film photo with either my R9, M7 or IIIa, that I took down to France. Wilson
M11 for me Posted July 2, 2022 Share #24 Posted July 2, 2022 My experience is that GPS tagging does NOT work at all. I wrote twice to Leica (out of the app directly). I got twice an answer very quickly. Unfortunately it was twice the same copy/paste answer. The advice was wrong: I should do one two three. It did it all. But it does not work. Sorry to hear you fell victim tot that awful disease and that recovery takes this long. I sincerely hope you get better soon and that you'll be able to take some great pictures, in beautiful France or elsewhere. All the best and get well soon.

Sorry to hear that GPS tagging hasn't been working at all for you. By now I have figured out that the Q2 connects to Leica FOTOS on my iPhone as long as I leave the app running in the background. Later this evening I'll go out for a walk in the neighborhood and I'll be testing geotagging. Cheers

But in my case after the "evening walk in the neighborhood" I had just the same GPS code (one single code) on all the photographs. You should check in Lightroom after importing your pictures. Plus the icons that are depicted in the instruction section of the new firmware I can not see in my EVF.

canticleer Posted July 3, 2022 Share #29 Posted July 3, 2022 Hi, I just came home from my little walk around the neighborhood to check geotagging with Leica FOTOS. Before I left the house I turned on my Q2 en opened Lieca FOTOS. Within half a minute the camera and the phone connected. I walked for about 45 minutes and I took just over 70 random shots. During the whole time Leica FOTOS was running in the background and I never turned off the Q2 in fear of loosing the connection. When I came home I imported the photographs into Capture One Pro and all of them are geotagged. Great. When I check the tags on a map I notice that the tagging is not spot on but about 1 or 2 minutes behind. This is probably due to the fact that the iPhone doesn't send data to the Q2 every 5 seconds. Bottom line is that in my case geotagging Q2 images with Leica FOTOS kind of works. Not very accurate but it works. If and when you turn off the Q2 it will take a while before the connection is established again. So if you turn off the camera in between shots it's probably a better idea to use Geotag Photos Pro or something similar and add the GPS data to the photos later.
