Good Morning,

I recently bought a m10m and exploring the ‘right’ lens to keep on it.    I have the 50 summilux asph which I love….has anyone shot the 50 rigid on the monochrome, if so, how does it render compare to the lux. I love shooting people. I know each lens paints the light differently, just hoping for some advice from those that may have shot both.

thanks

James.

Hello James,

the Rigid has less contrast (but excellent resolution) than the ASPH.

I find the 2 Lenses very different, and like to use the Rigid in high contrast situation when the ‘cron APO and ‘lux ASPH are too contrasty for my taste.

High resolution, smooth bokeh and no onion rings makes for a very fine lens !

James, for at least 25 years I used mainly a 50 mm Summicron lens on my M3. I strongly suggest you shoot plenty of subjects with your existing lens. Learn what it can do. Exploit its strengths. Be happy.

When you have some experience,  you might decide an alternative focal length might enhance your pleasure with the camera. That is the time to seek help and add another lens.

Appreciate all the responses, I have been shooting with a 50mm for over 50 years.......I just was hoping for some input on rendering of these different lenses....thank you didier

Well, you might have given your background.  Sorry, I assumed you were new.

I have both lenses. The Mandler design gives a rendering better suited to portraiture. A gentler rendering.

I have both lenses. While I would probably not use the Summicron for color work, unless you are interested in a muted palette, it is a good BW lens. High resolution and nice swirly background wide open.

Some examples (M10M)
