For those who would like to mount their 280mm f4.8 and 400mm f5.0 lenses to a Televit grip, S K Grimes in the US makes a reproduction of the 14138 adapter.  The original adapters are rare and thus expensive.

While I have not bought this adapter from them, I can attest to their quality, reasonable prices and quick turn around.

I find the 400mm f5.0 Telyt on the Televit grip to be a fabulous combination on Leica cameras.  It is very well balanced, easier to handle and performs better than the f5.6 Telyt lenses.

An equally hard to find adapter is the 98311, that allows the 400 telyt lens to be used on the Focorapid. I believe it was a New York only item. Also, I recently found an early Midland instruction manual for the Focorapid, a small dual language black/white undated pamphlet, for contrast, the larger color Focorapid brochure is also shown on top, it is dated 1963. With a final catalog listing of 1965, the Focorapid had a short life, perhaps not as useful to sports photographers as Leitz envisioned. Neither  document lists the 98411.

With the 400mm f5 Telyt + 98311, the center of gravity is so far in front of the Focorapid bearings and its palm pad that the combination is almost impossible to use.  On the other hand the 400mm f5 Telyt + 14138 + Televit is a pleasure to use and, in my opinion, is the best combination in the Televit system.
