Dear Leica Customer,

the serial 6149 was delivered on 29.08.1928

The place of delivery or recipient is not noted.

No entry in the old repair-/maintenance books or the current SAP System for this serial.

Since our Leica archive is closed for an indefinite period, I can't say more about the camera, i regret.

Do not hesitate to contact us again if you have further questions.

Bad news there. I will make some enquiries about the general situation. There may be some issues about staff resources, I fear.

Thanks. Just curious, what kind of additional information was Leica able to retrieve from its archives in the past? In the couple of times I used this service, I always just obtained information on date of delivery, place of delivery, recipient and entries in the repair books. For my cameras, only the date of delivery was known (just like in the case discussed here).

I'm not sure what people are getting now. I have in the past got full extracts from delivery and repair (upgrades) registers and in more recent times I have got just micro-fiches from the delivery registers. What concerns me is the statement that 'the Leica archive is closed for an indefinite period'. This to me has more implications than just getting delivery informations. Members of this Forum should be aware that at LHSA - The International Leica Society we now have substantial online documentation on Leica cameras, manuals, catalogues etc. We also have a full archive of LHSA Viewfinder magazine. However, the Archives in Wetzlar have much more than this behind closed doors with no public access. Leica staff and entities (e.g. Leitz Auction) have online access to original delivery information. I am also very conscious of the fact that it costs a lot of money to run a fully functioning archive, particularly when costs cannot be recovered.

I intend to make some enquiries.

Exactly what is shown in post #21 in this thread. No more extracts etc., I am afraid. That may well be related to the closure of the archives, which is indeed concerning.

this is what I recently got from Leica (Feb 2, 2022) regarding my newly acquired III

Dear Mr. Platt,

Ther is no entry in the old maintenance/ repair books for both serials.

I've contacted Leica on a couple of occasions in the last year for information about items in my small mostly pre-war collection. The only info they have consistently been able to provide is delivery date, nothing else. They did provide delivery locations for a couple of items (Jerusalem and Beirut), but not for the majority; I wish more delivery location info was available as that gives an insight into an item's possible past.

Last night I sent an enquiry for information about my latest purchase, a 1932 Leica 11 in chrome. It should have been black but must have been converted to chrome and re-engraved.

This morning I had a reply with a copy of the book record and a note that the conversion must have been done by a third party. A very quick reply.

Is there  someone who reads German script who can tell me what the delivery name is? Looks as if several were sent to the same purchaser.

It looks like Perrot from Nidau near Bern in Switzerland. I had a similar search for a camera connected to my Swiss Photos story and Jim Lager told me that was the name when he saw the record - see below.

There is still a camera shop in Nidau which is called Perrot, but it is no longer a Leica dealer.

How did you manage to get that copy from the books? I was recently told by Customer Care that Leica would no longer allow sending out such copies to customers. Good for you, but I would prefer equal treatment of all customers.
