Advertisement Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Hi dougdarter, Take a look here Brittany - Honfleur.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted September 9, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted September 9, 2007 Interesting shots, Doug, but a bit over-sharpened for my taste.
dougdarter Posted September 9, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted September 9, 2007 Hi Andy, Â Yikes!! Â You are right! I linked these direct from my website (which is suffering from poor compression at the moment). Â I've just reloaded fresh files from my computer, these are unmolested files. Guest flatfour Posted September 9, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted September 9, 2007 These are nice pictures but in my opinion the distortion makes them unnacceptable. They look as if they could each have been taken further away and a more normal focal length used

dist Posted September 10, 2007 Share #9  Posted September 10, 2007 Minor adujstments  Minor they may be but I'm afraid these adjustments (perspective distortion, I guess) completely ruin a picture that wasn't all that great to begin with. The grossly distorted 2CV is simply unacceptable imho. I'd rather have the original converging lines than this. Cheers,
carylwithay Posted September 10, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted September 10, 2007 Nice group. I particularly like the rich colors in the top two. Your name is a distraction. It does not protect your artwork, if that is why you make it so big. Caryl
Michael Hiles Posted September 10, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted September 10, 2007 Lovely pictures, particularly the last. Great town. Â Seems to me the coverging vertical are OK - if you are working from the quai, that's the way it was.

These are nothing other than holiday snaps which I thought others may enjoy.  In all the years I've been posting on photo forums, I've never felt the need to be scathing about the quality of other members' pictures, though frankly I've seen some awful ones. If I don't like them, I don't comment.
dist Posted September 12, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted September 12, 2007 Is that opinion or fact?? Â Opinion, hence the "imho". I simply don't like the exaggerated colours which is why I felt it wasn't all that great. Others think differently ("I particularly like the rich colors") so... what's the problem? You can't please everyone so you got to please yourself. You think it was all that great? Fine, good for you, it's the only thing that matters. Â If you take exception with my "criticism" you wouldn't last a minute in the German forum. As a matter of fact, the international forum is ridiculed over there for its almost mechanical applause for nearly every photo on display. Â While I do feel that the German forum is overly sordid and acidic in its criticism I guess whoever posts a photo here should be able to take "I simply don't like it" from a fellow forum member. Cheers,

Cheers,  I quite understand now. You didn't like the oversaturated colours. That's subjective critiscism which is fine, and acceptable. I didn't think the pics were 'great' at all - as I said, they were just simple holiday snaps.  You didn't actually say you didn't like it, you said it wasn't a great picture.  I actually welcome critiscism of anything that I post, and learn from the critiscism I receive - when others take the time and trouble to make the critiscism constructive.  Thanks for your comments:)  Doug

wda Posted September 17, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted September 17, 2007 Douglas, I can understand the controversy recorded above. Because the first two seem so strident I do prefer the last two images. #3 in particular has some interesting components including identifiable human interest.
